I, Wm Thompson do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest of Passengers, subscibed with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New York, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the Steamer Sarah Sands whereof I am Master, from Liverpool So help me God. There has been discussion whether this ship's name was
Sarah Lands or Sarah Sands.
I made note of it and today I was at the University of Washington library
to look up other ship arrivals. I also looked up this one in the
mircrofilm of The Evening Post, New York, Wednesday, May 2, 1849 where
steamship "Sarah Sands" arrived, Thompson the captain, from Liverpool
from which it sailed on March 28th with mdz. and passengers to R. Kermit
(don't know what that means). The SS broke her piston rod and cylinder
when 5 days out from Liverpool and her propeller having got jammed was
rendered useless. The engineer came up in the ship Constitution, having
left the steamer 60 miles SE from the Hook. Joyce Martin
