Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not the
transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information in the
Transcriber's Notes below.
? The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read due to quality of
the original document.
^ The use of a ^ indicates that the letter/letters following are superscripted.
The transcription preserves the original spelling.
The manifest scribe did not number the passengers; the numbers have been added by the
transcriber to aid with referencing.
All ditto marks on the original manifest have been replaced with the actual words
indicated.
The manifest scribe used vertical lines probably to indicate continuation/duplication
of the last written word(s).
The manifest scribe used a Germanic letter resembling 'fs'; to aid in reading,
these have been transcribed to 'ss'.
The day of arrival of this ship was omitted. The manifest for the NARA microfilm list
number immediately preceding this arrival and the manifest for the NARA microfilm
list number immediately following this arrival have clearly written arrival dates
of 16 March 1859.
15 Sex recorded originally as 'Wife', lined out, no Sex designator written.
23-24 Surname could be Dulach or Dutach.
53 Surname could be Garfitt or Garfilt.
60 Surname partially obscured by ink blot, could be Saxton; Notation in Died
on Voyage column: "March 10^th".
80 Center letters of surname illegible.
88 Surname could be Channon.
93 Surname could be Sale or Sole.
97 First name could be miswritten "Otto".
101 Surname could be Lelt, Pelt, or Selt.
106 3rd letter of surname overwritten, could be letter 'p' but unable
to determine clearly.
157-158 Center letters of surname not clear enough to transcribe.
161 First name could be miswritten "Barbara".
165 Passengers #165 - 189 appear to be duplicates of passenger names found
elsewhere in the manifest; these passengers were lined out on the manifest.
