SS City of Washington
I, Peter C. Petrie Master of the S.S. City of Washington do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by Me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York,is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Steamer at Liverpool from which port said Steamer has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.

? The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read due to quality
of the original document.
^ The use of a ^ indicates that the letter/letters following are superscripted.
The transcription preserves the original spelling.
The manifest scribe did not number the passengers; the numbers have been added by
the transcriber.
All ditto marks on the original manifest have been replaced with the actual words
indicated.
The manifest scribe used a Germanic letter resembling 'fs'; to aid in reading, these
have been transcribed to 'ss'.
The manifest scribe added a column to the far right side of the manifest, probably
indicates amount of baggage brought aboard. The "(" indicates family member(s)
included in the amount of baggage; "(" and a number following is written on the
first passenger of the family or group and indicates the number of packages, etc.
For example, passenger # 1 and family/group brought 2 pieces of baggage aboard,
passenger # 2 traveled with him as family.
22 Center letters of first name illegible because of ink blot, could be Henry;
ending of surname not clear, could be Fang or Faney.
27 Several illegible letters written after surname, lined out.
30-31 1st, 3rd, and 4th letters of surname illegible because of heavy overwriting.
36-38 1st number of Age illegible because of fold/crease in manifest paper.
42 Name could be James Skerrington; 1st number of Age not clear, could be 66y or 76y.
47 Sex illegible because of ink blot.
49 Occupation recorded originally as "Wife", lined out.
69 First name illegible because of ink blot.
70 First letter of first name illegible, ending of first name illegible because of
ink blot.
82 Age illegible, less than 10y.
103-104 3rd letter of surname illegible.
