DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, H. D. Cutting, Master of the S.S. "Helvetia", do solemnly,
sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by
me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection
District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken
on board the said S.S. "Helvetia" at Liverpool and Queenstown from which Ports
the said S.S. "Helvetia" has now
arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the
occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each
during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of
which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or
Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said
Voyage and the names and ages of those who died.

Transcriber's Notes:
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.
The transcriber numbers all the passengers consecutively 1 through 616, even
though the recorder of the original manifest numbered the 1st Cabin passengers 1
through 32, and the Steerage passengers 1 through 584.
The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates given names by writing the first
few letters of the name, then skipping letters and then writing the final letter
as superscripted. In these cases, the transcriber uses the symbol (^) to indicate
that the following letter was superscripted, i.e., Mich^l for Michael, Marg^t for
Margaret, W^m for William, etc.
The entry "United States" in the native country and destination country columns
is shortened to "U. States" for formatting reasons.
61 Surname is recorded as "Hurly", but might possibly be "Hurley".
94 Surname is recorded as "Chistine", but might possibly be "Christine".
95 Surname is either "Lakier" or "Lokier".
97 Surname is either "Sleiman" or "Sluman".
128-129 Surname is possibly "Crisie", "Crisic", "Cusie" or "Cusic".
130 Given name is overwritten and cannot be deciphered with certainty, but might
possibly be "Gro", "Cro" or "Geo". Surname is possibly "Covaffa" or "Coraffa".
152 Surname is recorded as "Philips", but might possibly be "Phillips".
175 Surname is either "Watle" or "Wake".
203 Surname is either "Lantan" or "Lautan".
216-218 Surname is either "Henser" or "Heuser".
221 Surname is either Minsel" or "Winsel".
237 Surname is possibly "Qubben" or "Jubben".
