I, Kahler do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest,subscribed with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New York, contains to the best of my knowledge and belief a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the Bark August & Emma whereof I am Master, from Bremen So help me God New York to the 26 Dec 1854

? A question mark indicates material that was indecipherable.  
* An asterisk indicates further information found in the passenger notes.  

Gender has been indicated on this list as m or f instead of man or woman as in
  the original list and womens' occupations listed as "none" in the original list
  have been left blank on this list.  In other entries, women and children seem
  to have an occupation the same as a male in the family group (see #30-39)--the
  ditto marks cannot be explained.

Spellings of destinations have been transcribed as found in the original list,
  i.e. Pensylvania, etc.


  1     Surname has an umlauted "u" thus may also be Gruetze.
 13     Surname has an umlauted "o" thus may also be Doehrel.
 19     Entry in far right column says:  died
 24     Information obliterated by damage to original. It looks like the
        surname may begin with a "W.
 53-55  Surname has an umlauted "o" thus may also be Loewenfeld.
 60-61  Surname has an umlauted "o" thus may also be Koehler.
 63     First letter of surname unclear.  Name may be Plaut or Slaut.
 68     First letter of surname unclear.  Name may be Krines or Strines.
 77     Surname has an umlauted "a" so may also be Gaertner.
 81     Surname has an umlauted "u" so may also be Mueller.
 87     Sixth letter of surname unclear because of damaged original.  Name
        may be Hartwig or Hartweg.
 88     Damage to original copy has blurred this name.
 91     Surname has an umlauted "u" so name may be Muendler.
117     Name is blurred due to damage to original--seems like it may be
        Beseler.
118     Surname has an umlauted "u" so may also be Schuerer.
128     Surname has an umlauted "o" so may also be Koenig.
129     Surname may be Niehbeck.
