Transcriber's Notes:
* is for error by the original recorder or to note other information on the copy added to
the transcriber's notes.
? Transcriber unable to read due to the quality of the copy, letters are too small, written
over or elaborate writing.
This Manifest indicates the ship left Genova on 2 April, Naples on 3 April, and Palermo on 4
April. This page has the number 50 stamped on the top and bottom of the given name column.
The number 201 is written on the top left corner of the page. The city of Naples appears to
be a stamped one in the header of the ship information. This page of the manuscript is
fairly easy to read, but the script of the recorder is not so easy.
The recorder used ditto marks for many passengers in columns of gender, marital status,
occupation, and able to read and write, town of relative and final destination. and all
passengers in columns of nationality, race and last address. This transcriber replaced all
ditto marks with the information referred to in the passenger listings. The recorder wrote
the gender as m for masculine and f for feminine, and marital status as M for married, and S
for single. This transcriber has typed these as they are on the manuscript. The cities given
may be a small section of the larger city or a town outside it, unable to find most of them
in the Atlas.
Passengers 1018, 1019, 1020, 1021 and 1022 are lined out. However, though 1015 is lined out,
the word Admitted is stamped before the surname, and there are citizenship numbers written
in the occupation column. A line across the columns indicates the passenger did make the
passage on this ship. These do not have a check before their surnames, between age and
gender, or Final Destination as all other passengers do. The information given maybe visible
either below, above, or through these lines, which the transcriber typed in. The first
three passengers on this page have numbers written by hand before the printed line numbers,
no other lines have such numbering. There is a line across all columns between the fifth
and sixth passenger on this page, number 997 and 998, but that passenger does not seem to be
crossed out. The recorder wrote the number of passengers making this trip as 25, written in
the last residences columns of passengers 1016 and 1017. Below the list of passengers from
able to read to Nationality columns is written ... Except, then a number sign, a 5, a dash
2?, a dash, and a 28. The word Except and number 5 maybe to show that the line below the
passenger on the fifth line is not crossed out. But this transcriber does not know what the
other numbers, which are very light, after that means. Of 30 passengers written on these
pages, it appears that 26 made this passage. Inspector of this ship signed as
The Italian language has no letter j, k, or w, x, or y. The letter h is only used with ch or
gh.
The passenger listing above is only one page of this manifest. Both may be seen on the
Ellis Island Web Site.

993 Azzollini, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 30. Occupation is
written as farmlab or farm laborer, which is crossed out and laborer is written above it.
994 Gifiriani, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 31. After given
names of 994 and 995 the word bro or brother is written with a bracket connecting the
two after the word. First digit of age is not clear, maybe 42. Gender, marital status,
occupation, nationality, race, last address, town of wife, and final destination columns
have ditto marks from 993. Last residence has ditto marks from previous passengers, but
usa is written in by another hand. At the end of the line is stamped NON IMM for Non
Immigrant.
995 Gifiriani, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 32. After given
names of 994 and 995 the word bro or brother is written with a bracket connecting the
two after the word. First digit of age is not clear, maybe 40. Gender, marital status,
occupation, nationality, race, last address, town of wife, and final destination columns
have ditto marks from 993. Last residence has ditto marks from previous passengers, but
usa is written in by another hand. At the end of the line is stamped NON IMM for Non
Immigrant.
996 Abbatti???, last letters of surname and given name are not clear, handwriting is light
and letters are close together. Surname maybe Abbattista. Given name is more difficult to
read, seventh letter looks like a w or an h with a curved line back to it. Name maybe
Angelanhnia or Angelanlonia. No similar name was found. First digit of age is not clear,
maybe 43. Gender, marital status, occupation, nationality, race, last address, town of
wife, and final destination columns have ditto marks from 993. Last residence has ditto
marks from previous passengers, but usa is written in by another hand. At the end of the
line is stamped NON IMM for Non Immigrant.
997 Nolente, a line was drawn across the page under the information of this passenger. A
reference to it is written at the bottom of the page that says, Except a number sign 5
dash 2? dash 28. The 5 is the line number of passenger. It is lightly written. The number
after 5 dash 2?, maybe a 4 or a 7 with a line through it, the European way of writing it.
Transcriber tried to find out what this means, but could find no explanation. This may
mean the passenger was crossed off or not. It is possible he was not, since the recorder
wrote 25 people made this trip, and the notation is in a hand different from the
recorder. Gender, marital status, occupation, nationality, race, last address, town of
wife, and final destination columns have ditto marks from 993. Given name of wife maybe,
Cersconia, Ersconia, or Gersconia. First letters are not clear, no similar name was found.
998 Messina, surname is crossed out and written by another hand to clarify it. Given name
letters are close together and not clear, no similar name was found. Gender, marital
status, occupation, nationality, race, last address, town of wife, and final destination
columns have ditto marks from 993.
999 Farinola, surname is crossed out and written by another hand to clarify it. Under the
name by the recorder, it looks like Famiola. Gender, marital status, occupation,
nationality, race, last address, town of wife, and final destination columns have ditto
marks from 993. Last residence has ditto marks from previous passengers, but usa is
written in by another hand. At the end of the line is stamped NON IMM for Non
Immigrant.
1000 L?asavecchia, a horizontal line is drawn before line number. Surname is small and not
clear, second letter maybe an f or p, as Lfrasavecchia or Lpasavecchia. Gender, marital
status, occupation, nationality, race, last address, town of wife, and final destination
columns have ditto marks from 993. Last residence has ditto marks from previous
passengers, but usa is written in by another hand. At the end of the line is stamped NON
IMM for Non Immigrant.
1001 Modugno, Gender, marital status, occupation, town of wife, and final destination columns

final destination columns have ditto marks from 993.

clear to this transcriber. Gender, marital status, occupation, town of wife, and final
destination columns have ditto marks from 993. Last residence has ditto marks from
previous passengers, but usa is written in by another hand. At the end of the line is
stamped NON IMM for Non Immigrant.
1004 Cantatore, surname is crossed out and written by another hand to clarify it. Gender,
marital status, occupation, town of wife, and final destination columns have ditto marks
from 993. Last residence has ditto marks from previous passengers, but usa is written in
by another hand. At the end of the line is stamped NON IMM for Non Immigrant.
1005 Belgiovine, Gender, marital status, occupation, town of wife, and final destination
columns have ditto marks from 993. Last residence has ditto marks from previous
passengers, but usa is written in by another hand. At the end of the line is stamped NON
IMM for Non Immigrant.
1006 De Candia, surname is crossed out and written by another hand to clarify it, but it is
still not clear and maybe De Caudia. Gender, marital status, occupation, town of wife,
and final destination columns have ditto marks from 993. Last residence has ditto marks
from previous passengers, but usa is written in by another hand. Given name of wife,
letters are small and close together. At the end of the line is stamped NON IMM for Non
Immigrant.
1007 Morolla, surname is crossed out and written by another hand to clarify it, though it
looks clear to this transcriber. Gender, marital status, occupation, town of wife, and
final destination columns have ditto marks from 993. Given name of wife, letters are not
clear, small and close together. First letter maybe an E or a G. Looks more like Emlia or
Einlia, neither are Italian names. Closest found is either Emilia or Giulia.
1008 Parisi, surname is crossed out and written by another hand to clarify it. Age first digit
is not clear, maybe 26 or 36. Gender, marital status, occupation, town of relative, and
final destination columns have ditto marks from 993. Given name of wife, letters are not
clear, small and close together. First letter maybe an E or a G. Looks more like Emlia or
Einlia, neither are Italian names. Closest found is either Emilia or Giulia.
1009 Minervini, surname is crossed out and written by another hand to clarify it. Age first
digit is not clear, looks like an L, could be 40 or maybe 20. Gender, marital status,
occupation, town of wife, and final destination columns have ditto marks from 993. Last
residence has ditto marks from previous passengers, but usa is written in by another hand.
Given name of wife, letters are not clear, small and close together. It looks more like
Eniolina or Eudina, no such Italian names exist, but more likely is Emolina. At the end
of the line is stamped NON IMM for Non Immigrant.
1010 Magarelli, surname is crossed out and written by another hand to clarify it, though it
looks clear to this transcriber. Given name looks like more like Manso or Manco, but
maybe Mamo or Manro, none are Italian given names. But it is definitely not Mario or
Marco, the only similar names found, unless it was misspelled by recorder. Gender, marital
status, occupation, town of wife, and final destination columns have ditto marks from
993. Last residence has ditto marks from previous passengers, but usa is written in by
another hand. At the end of the line is stamped NON IMM for Non Immigrant.
1011 Farinola, surname is crossed out and written by another hand to clarify it, though it
looks clear to this transcriber. Gender, marital status, occupation, town of wife, and
final destination columns have ditto marks from 993. Last residence has ditto marks from
previous passengers, but usa is written in by another hand. At the end of the line is
stamped NON IMM for Non Immigrant.
1012 D' Elia, surname is crossed out and written by another hand to clarify it, though it
looks clear to this transcriber. Given name looks like the last letter is written over
to clarify it as an o. Numbers are written from marital status to occupation columns, 1 a
dash, 277755. Under that is written 505 in parentheses, then like a date 12 a diagonal
dash, 8 a diagonal dash, and what looks like 39. The long stroke of a check mark from a
later passenger slightly blocks the last number. These numbers are a verification for
naturalization purposes, usually done after 1926. The first number is a naturalization
district number, the second set is either an application number or the Certificate of
Arrival number. The 505 is for a verification form, used to transmit manifest information
to the requesting INS office, indicating a verification or record check, most likely with
the date this was done. Marital status maybe S or single, these numbers cover any
notation, but between the numbers looks like it maybe an S. Gender, occupation, race,
Nationality, and country columns have ditto marks from 993.
1013 Conte, surname is crossed out and written by another hand to clarify it, though it looks
clear to this transcriber. Given name letters are not clear, it looks like it ends in
aw, but maybe a aso, like another passenger. No letters are above or below the line, Only
letters able to make out, look like Cou?m?aso, Cos???ano, nothing close or similar found.
Gender, occupation, race, Nationality, and country columns have ditto marks from 993.
Marital status has ditto marks from 1012, and maybe S for single. Gender, occupation,
columns have ditto marks from 993. Given name of father, letters are small and close
together. First letter maybe an E as Era?? no, or E?a?dno, nothing close or similar found.
1014 Marcucci, age is totally not clear, looks more like L y, but maybe 29. Gender,
occupation, race, nationality, and country columns have ditto marks from 993. Last
residence has ditto marks from previous passengers, but usa is written in by another
hand. Written over or under usa, though not clear, looks the same as the town of the
wife. Final destination was written over by another hand, can not read either, only the
first letter of the state is legible, the rest is not readable. At the end of the line is
stamped NON IMM for Non Immigrant.
1015 Spallone, the word ADMITTED is stamped before the number line, meaning the passenger was
temporarily detained, then allowed into port. Under that looks like SI was written,
meaning passenger was held for Board of Special Inquiry hearing. All columns look like
they were crossed off, then possibly erased, as they are very light. Surname is crossed
out and written by another hand to clarify it, though it looks clear to this transcriber.
Occupation seems to be written over, but looks like domestic. Numbers are written over
it, form occupation to able to read columns, 22 a dash, 84081 a dash, then like a date, 8
a diagonal dash, 1 a diagonal dash, 39. These numbers are a verification for
naturalization purposes, usually done after 1926. The first number is a naturalization
district number, the second set is either an application number or the Certificate of
Arrival number. Race, Nationality, and country columns have ditto marks from 993. City of
last residence and that of father are not clear, both look to have been written by
different hands. For passenger it looks like Macshi? or Maccls?. For her father it looks
like Macton?, Maccle?, or Macctin?, nothing similar found. Final destination, city is
written over boldly, can not read what was below, but may have begun with an F.
1016 Mazza, Given name is not clear, maybe Rocco. Race, Nationality, and country columns have
ditto marks from 993. Final destination is illegable, State maybe Mass or Con as Conn.
Can not make out city at all, looks like Me or Ne, and a new word, or may begin as Netha.
The last part looks like Hamfolou or maybe Hampton, perhaps New Hampton, none found in
Conn. Only close one found is Mathuen, Mass. Nothing other similar finds in atlas.
1017 Sorgenti?, surname is crossed out and written by another hand to clarify it. The first
spelling looks like Sorgente, second spelling, can not make out the last letter, it
looks like an s, as Sargentis. Passenger has a mark before the line number, not an x
indicating held for special inquiry, but rather a diagonal line. Transcriber found no
reference as to the meaning of this type of marking. Gender, occupation, and town of
mother columns have ditto marks from 1016. Race, Nationality, and country columns have
ditto marks from 993.
1018 Cantainto, passenger is crossed out by a line. This usually means that the passenger was
not on this ship. Surname is not clearly visible under the line, which looks to have a
second line drawn over it. Surname looks as shown above, but maybe Cantamto. Age is also
blocked by the line, looks like it may be 62. Race, Nationality, and country columns have
ditto marks from 993. Last residence maybe Masstia or Musstria, nothing similar found.
City of destination script is not clear, may begin with a Z or F, it looks like it has
one letter then a second word which can not be made out. No towns found with similar
lettering, none of which go above or below the line.
1019 Cantainto, passenger is crossed out by a line. This usually means that the passenger was
not on this ship. In surname column is written the word wife. Given name is blocked by a
thicker line. A second line may habe been drawn over it and looks to begin with an R. The
rest is covered by a thicker line, but maybe Rosemaria or Rosaria. The first seems more
likely as there seem to be more letters than the second. Brackets are before the surname
and between last residence and nearest relative columns. Age looks like it maybe 60.
Other than dittos in race, nationality, and country columns from 993, and last address
from 1019 all other columns are blank. Nearest relative has the word none written.
1020 Cantainto, passenger is crossed out by a line. This usually means that the passenger was
not on this ship. In surname column is written what looks like son. Given name has a
thicker line over it, with a second line drawn over the word son. brackets are before the
surname and between last residence and nearest relative columns. Age looks like it maybe
17. Other than dittos in race, nationality, and country columns from 993, and last
address from 1019 all other columns are blank.
1021 Mancino, surname is crossed out and written by another hand to clarify it, though it
looks clear to this transcriber. Given name looks like Mano but maybe Mario, script of
recorder is not clear nor is this copy which is spotted. Age may be 20 or 26. Marital
status is not clear and looks like an M or do for ditto from previous passenger, maybe
married or single. Race, Nationality, and country columns have ditto marks from 993.
First word in city of last address and that of wife are not clear. City of passenger
looks like Ecoia del Colle, where that of wife looks like Ecas del Colle. Nothing similar
found. Given name of wife is not clear, can not make any other letters out and nothing
similar or close was found. Final destination looks written over, both state and city.
R of rochester is darker than other letters. Can not read what was written underneath.
1022 Gia????o, passenger is crossed out by a line. This usually means that the passenger was
not on this ship. Surname is not clearly visible under the line and it looks like a
second line was drawn over it. Surname may begin with Gia or Ea. Rest of letters are
covered by the line, and can not make them out. Other than dittos in race, nationality,
and country columns from 993, all other columns are blank.
