I, A. Albers, Master of the S.S. Rugia, do solemnly, sincerely
and truly declare that the following List or Manifest,
subscribed by me,
and now delivered by me to the Collector of the
Customs of the Collection
District of the city of New York is a full and perfect
list of all the
passengers taken on board of the said steamship at
Hamburg from which port said steamship has now arrived; and that on said list
is truly designated the age, the sex and the occupation
of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each
during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of
which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or
Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on
said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died. So help me God,

447 Martin Caspers was born on Oct. 2, 1859 in Pellworm, Germany. His
parents were Johann Martin Wilhelm Caspers (1815-1886)and Anna Johanna Maria
Levsen (1828-1902). He was one of 9 children. We do not know why he went to the US. It is
known that he settled in California, where he died on Feb. 2, 1937 in San Bernadino County.
We are not sure if he followed his uncle, Henry G.A. Caspers who sailed on the Ship
Christine Louise, arriving in New York on Aug 19th, 1839. Henry G.A. Caspers fought during
the Mexican War and was discharged in 1848 in Independence, Mo. This is all we know about
these 2 gentleman. Please contact Ines Mannhardt or Hinrich Hansen if you have any information.
