DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, W H Freeman, Master of the Schr Mattie E Dodge, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said Schr at Barbados, from which Port the said Schr has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage and the names and ages of those who died.

Sworn to this April 27 1868,
Before me. (Signature) W ? C?????y, D.C..
List or Manifest of ALL THE PASSENGERS taken on board the Schr Mattie E Dodge whereof W H Freeman is Master, from Barbados, burthen 193 tons.
Columns represent: given name and surname, age, sex, occupation, the country to which they severally belong, the country in which they intend to become inhabitants, and the part of the vessel occupied during the voyage. Since no one died during the voyage, this column is omitted in the transcription.

Transcriber's Notes:

A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that cannot be transcribed
  definitely.

An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.

A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.

The column for entering "The Country in which they intend to become inhabitants"
was left blank by the recorder. The implication could be that both passengers
intend to reside in the United States, or since both passengers are traveling
merchants, they intend to remain citizens of their native countries.

1 An ink drop obscures most of the first name initial of this passenger. The
letter is possibly, but not certainly, "M".
2 An ink drop obscures most of the first and middle name initials of this passenger.
The first letter is possibly "S" or "T". The second initial is possibly, but not
     certainly, "H".

National Archives and Records Administration, Film M237, Reel 292, List 347.
