Thanks to the research of my German cousin, Dieter Alt of Florstsadt, the name and arrival date of my great great grandfather has been at long last discovered. Carl Ludwig Treudt, age 24, of Nieder Florstadt,in company with his ocusin Phillip Ludwig Dauenrheim, age 26, arrived on the ship Manchester in Baltimore, Maryland, October 13, 1846. Carl Ludwig Treudt lived in St. Louis before the Civil War, and from 1862-65, served in the 104th Illinois Infantry. He was a resident of Hennepin, Illinois from 1861-75, a carpenter, married and the father of 9 children. Tracing his history has been a life-long hobby, and I have written a book-lenght manuscript about his life and times. Visiting his birthplace in Nieder Florstadt and meeting my German family there for the first time in 1999, has been one of the most special experiences of lifetime. Steve Correspondence added January 4, 2010 - Passengers 56-62 Becker and 83-88 Gassdorf Madam, Sir, looking through your list of ship "Manchester" I found two families from here, listed in my historic family book 1649-1875. I enclose them by an attachment Familie Philip Becker and Familie Gaßdorf. Source data from: "C.D. Herzfeldt, Historisches Familienbuch Petterweil 1649-1875, Karben (Germany) 2001.“ The mentioned family "Gass???“ seems to be the family "Gaßdorf“ or Gassdorf or Geß(ss)dorf. Are there any further informations? The whole seems to me to be published in my bimonthly paper. Best wishes for a Happy New Year! dr.c.d.herzfeldt www.pw-gesch-bl.de
