Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not the
transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information in
the transcriber's notes.
? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to
the condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.
^ A ^ followed by a letter indicates that the letter was superscripted.
* Names were transcribed as seen regardless of spelling.
All passengers intended to live in the United States, no-one died on the voyage.
Therefore these two coloumns were eliminated.
395: Bernh^d could stand for Bernhard.
403: the first name should be Sara, see below.
405: the first name should be Hillegonda, see below.
407: the last name could be Ploog.
413: the last name, Schafer, is spelled with a Umlaut.
422: Missionar is German for Missionary.
427: Ferd. might stand for Ferdinand.
428 - 430: the occupation coloumn is smudged and nothing can be read. It looks
like nothing is written there.
460: the occupation could be ensign, misspelled.
477: X behind the name could mean that this passengers was temporarily detained.
See here for more
information.
495: the only passengers with the last name Selas are passengers 21 - 26 on page 1.
Therefore this passenger is probably the daughter of Passenger 21, Maria Selas.

Bertha Mannhardt was travelling with the van der Smissen family. She was born March 18, 1844,
Hademarschen, Germany, died March 5, 1825 in Hamburg Germany. She was the illegitimate daughter
of Hermann Gottlieb Mannhardt (1806 - 1885) and Anna Popp (1815 - 1845). On Nov. 20, 1846 she
was legitimized through a decree of the Danish king Christian VIII. Bertha Mannhardt is
Carl v.d. Smissen's niece. She never married and worked as nanny at the house of van der Smissen
