DISTRICT OF NEW YORK -- PORT OF NEW YORK
I, T. F. Freeman, Master of the S.S. Colorado, do solemnly, sincerely and truly___that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said S.S. Colorado at Liverpool from which port said S.S. Colorado has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died. List or Manifest OF ALL THE PASSENGERS taken on board the S.S. Colorado whereof Thos: F. Freeman is Master, from Liverpool burthen 1990 tons.
Columns represent: numbering on list (possibly berths), name, age, sex, occupation, the country to which they severally belong, and died on the voyage. Also listed on the manifest but not here were the country in which they intend to become inhabitants, for which all listed "United States", and Part of the vessel occupied by each passenger during the voyage, for which all were listed as "Steerage" except for the cabin passengers listed separately at the bottom of the manifest. Passenger numbering has been added.

The use of an * indicates an omission or error made by the original recorder not the
transcriber or is used to call your attention to additional information in the
Transcriber's Notes below.
The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read, due to quality of
original document.
Information in lists (including surname) which is repeated in subsequent lines is
dittoed on originals.
Capital letters I and J are identical, so cannot be certain, especially when used as
initials.
Capital letters L and S are almost identical, so can be confused.
Abbreviated given names are not consistent:
Mcl, Micl, and Michl are all presumably abbreviations for Michael.
Brid, Brig, and Brigt are probably Bridget.
Elizabeth is abbreviated Eliz, Eliza, Elizh, Elizth, Elz, Elzh, and Elza
Margaret as Mag, Magr, Margt, Mgr, and Mgt.
A caret (^) used in abbreviations signifies that the following letters are superscripted.
Age listings are sometimes given "a" for adult and "c" for child without a specified age.
Occupational listings are given only as "Lab" for laborer (all adult males), or "Spin"
for spinster and "Wife or Matron" for adult females. This is useless for determining
actual occupation, but useful for females in helping to determine relationships of
men and women traveling together.
Cabin passengers are all "Gent" or "Lady".
Country of origin is given only as England, Ireland, or Foreigner. There is a
likelyhood of them being inaccurate. It is unknown why the recorder did not list a
country of origin for those listed as Foreigner.
There are fourteen names on the manifest with the listing "Yes" in the column "Died on
the voyage": passengers #34, #43, #84, #138, #219. #228, #246, #257. #260, #267,
#275, #307, #316, #323. Two are women and the rest are men. (Formatter's note: most of
these passengers state that they are from the United States, the yes could mean that
they are US citizens).
12 ? is a single initial but could not determine what it was

49 Could be Med
76-77 Could be Gillispie
78 ? is a single superscripted letter - too small to see clearly
81 ?? looks to be 'de' making the name Gode but can't be sure of the letters
due to blurring
90 Was listed as female but probably male (Formatter's note: Got(t)lieb is
a German first name for a male).
93 ? looks to be an 's' but can't be sure
96 ??? looks to be"sce" making the name Crescenia but letters not distinct
enough to tell for sure.
98 ??? looks be 'ohn' making the name John but seems unlikely since the family
was not English or Irish.
108 ?? looks to be 'am' making the name Ludiam, however the last two letter
could also be 'on'.
115 Could be Tucht
118-120 ???? could be 'werk' making the name Steubenwerk but the letters are
all squeezed together to fit in the column space.
142 ?? is a superscript notation. Perhaps the first letter of the superscript
is 'l' the second is unreadable.
153 ? could be an 'm' making the name perhaps an abbreviation of Edmond.
But too small to clearly see.
159 ?? - the first letter looks like a capital 'A' or 'M' that has been
over-written with another letter. The second letter might be an 'm' but it
is too small to tell.
162 Probably should have been Philip
163 Was listed male but probably female
189 ? is illegible
195 Was listed female but probably male
216 ? Could be T or I or J
223 ??? Looks like it might be Gtk
238 ??? Could be 'am' or 'ain' making the name Soam or Soain

through 339 under this first entry are dittoed.
