Since every page is numbered from 1 to 30, the transcriber has numbered the
passengers continuously for ease of transcribing and referencing.

*  An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not
   the transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information
   in the transcriber's NOTE.

?  Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the
   condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.

^  Indicates letters are omitted and the following letter is superscripted.

Str. is the abbreviation for the German word for street.

The person typing the manifest used do. for ditto a lot, or "as above". This 
is the reason quite often the relationships are wrong.

Most passengers have numbers written in the column that shows their country of
birth. These are handwritten numbers. They seem to have been written at time of 
arrival since they are the same handwriting as the Inspector's hand writing. 

These numbers most likely indicate a NY file number 
(file does not survive). Indicates early verification/record check. More

Coloumn 24, first part has NO typed in it for all passengers, perm(anent) 
is written for all passengers. Everything after the first 4 letters has been 
cut off.
