Transcriber's Notes:
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber Notes to which the reader should refer.
The transcriber numbers the passengers consecutively even though they are not
numbered in the original manifest.
Entries recorded in the columns for "The country to which they severally belong"
and "The country in which they intend to become inhabitants" are likely unreliable.
Several passengers with American names are listed as belonging to "Spain" when they
are more likely U.S. citizens. The U.S. Army general and his wife, passengers 10
and 11, are also listed as belonging to "Spain" which must be a recording error.
2 Letters of surname are poorly formed and cannot be deciphered with certainty.
First letter appears to be either "A" or "C" followed by "ris" followed by
either "a" or "ci" followed by either "ve" or "vi". Surname is possibly
"Arisave", "Arisavi", "Ariscive", "Ariscivi", "Crisave", "Crisavi", "Criscive"
or "Ariscivi".
4-5 Letters of surname are poorly formed and cannot be deciphered with certainty.
Surname is possibly "Borgnaia", "Bouquaia", "Barquaia" or something similar.
14 Surname begins with "Muss" followed by either "a" or "er" followed by between
two to four letters too faint to be deciphered.
16 Letters of given name are not clearly formed and cannot be deciphered with
certainty, but name appears to be "Emila", "Emilee" or "Emilio".
23 Give name appears to be written as "Jne".
34 Surname appears to be either "Lanson" or "Lawson".
36 Middle initial cannot be deciphered.
43 Letters of given name and surname are poorly formed and difficult to decipher
with certainty, but surname is possibly "Holloleson", "Hollobson", "Hottoleson"
or "Hottobson".
45 Middle initial is possibly "H".
48-49 Surname is possibly "Kusley", "Kinley", "Kurley" or even "Kinsley".
49 Given name is too poorly written to decipher.
55 Surname is possibly "McKinn", "McKurn" or "McKern".
63 Give name appears to be written as "Jne".
68 Full given name is recorded as "Josephine". Letters of surname are compressed
and poorly formed making the name impossible to decipher with certainty. Name
begins "Co" followed by "n" or "m" followed by "ama" followed by between two to
four undecipherable letters.
70 First letter of surname is not decipherable. Surname possibilities include
"Ibano", "Obano" and "Ubano", among others.
