I, Richard Hughs** do solemnly, sincerely, and truly Swear that the following List or Manifest of Passengers, subscribed with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New York, contains to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the Bark Hindoo whereof I am Master, from Carnarvon Wales

? The use of a ? indicates a name or letters that could not be read, due to
the quality of the original documents.
The column headed 'The country to which they severally belong' was completed
as 'Wales' for all passengers.
The column headed 'The country in which they intend to become inhabitants'
was completed as 'United States' for all passengers.
The column headed 'Sex' was only completed for the first passenger Thomas
Williams as 'Male'
* There was no entry for 'Age' or 'Occupation' for passengers who died on
passage.
** The captain signed his name as 'Richard Hughes.'
11 Given Parry - could be Widdr [Widower] but more likely to be 'Widow' as
other passengers called 'Given' eg Nos. 19 and 37 are female.

Contributor's family onboard #139 Chapman
Passenger 139 - William Chapman worked at the Delabole Slate Quarry in
Cornwall, England when a young boy. In the early 1830s he went from there
to work at the Penrhyn Quarry in North Wales and emigrated to the United
States in 1842. He discovered slate in Northampton County, PA and
subsequently founded the town called Chapmans Quarries. He became one of
the richest men in Northampton County. Anyone with information about
William Chapman is invited to send it to Catherine Lorigan
