The pages on this film are not numbered so finding a particular ship can be difficult. However, there is a system of numbering the manifests that is part of the filing system for Chinese persons at the National Archives. These numbers are included in the identification of the film and reel numbers below. The first two paragraphs above are printed as part of the form for this list. The next paragraph and its headings is a piece of paper attached to the page. After this is a separate stamp placed on the body of the page and then completed. The cover sheet for this list has two hand written notes. Inspector: Land the within named Chinaman after identification and production of registration certificate (signature) JJ Tobin, Deputy Collector I certify that I have this day landed the within named Chinese who had a registration certificate other than laborer number 127119, February 4, 1895 (signature) WW Presbury, Chinese Inspector There is also a note on the cover sheet "Broadway Wharf to 3 PM, 1271?9" There were no entries for "If accredited officers of Chinese Government, state facts." Occupation is universally recorded as Merchant or Grocer because following the Chinese Exclusion Act of May 6, 1882 admission was denied to all Chinese except laborers already in the US and "students, teachers, merchants or those proceeding to the United State from curiosity." According to the National Archives branch in San Bruno, California it is possible that they have some information on any Chinese passenger who arrived in San Francisco after 1886.
