DISTRICT OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, John Evans, Master of the S.S. Barracouta, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said vessel at St. Kitts from which port said vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the calling of each of said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as it can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a projected sojourn in this country. So help me God. (signed) John Evans. Sworn to this June 25, 1884, before me. (signed) ????????
List or Manifest of ALL THE PASSENGERS taken on board the SS Barracouta whereof Jno Evans is Master, from St. Kitts, burthen 1082 tons.
Columns represent: given name and surname, age (yrs. and mos.), sex, calling, the country of which they are citizens, intended destination or location, location of compartment or space occupied, number of pieces of baggage, transient or in transit or intending protracted sojourn. Transcriber's Notes:

An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting
of the manifest or something that the reader should note.

A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be
  transcribed definitely.

"P.S." or "In T." entered in the column "transient or in transit or intending
protracted sojourn" likely means "Protracted Sojourn" and "In transit", respectively.

Although no entry is made for passengers 16-31 in the column "transient or in
transit or intending protracted sojourn", it is likely from the context that
they intend a protracted sojourn in the USA.

11 "U.S. Col'd" entered in both of the columns "country of citizenship" and
"intended destination" likely implies that this man was a black American who
was the servant of passenger #10. The location of his compartment was not
     noted.
12 "Q.C." entered in the calling column likely implies "Queen's Counsel". In
England and Canada, Queen's Counsel is a senior barrister ranking above other
     members of the bar.
30 Country of citizenship of "Demerara" is probably Demerara, Guyana.
