Correspondence 06/21/2005 passengers #236-238 Nossler This is the bark that my mother's grandparents traveled on on their way to Power's Lake, WI and eventually homesteading in Lyons, WI in 1870. I see that their name is misspelled as Vossler (corrected) - the correct spelling is : Nößler (the o has an umlaut (ö)and then an esset (ß) = ss). Here in the USA after Casper and Christiane died, less than two weeks apart in a smallpox epidemic in 1882, the children decided to change the spelling to Nesslar which it remains today. In 2003 my wife and I traveled to Wernshausen in Thüringen and met with many Nößler relatives, they still spell it this way as have my ancestors back at least to 1694 when they arrived from Alt-Breitungen a few miles away after Balthazar Nößler was involved in the Farmers revolt.
