Transcriber's Notes:
The first two paragraphs above are printed as part of the form for this list. The third and fourth paragraphs are two separate stamps placed on the body of the page and then completed. The pages on this film are not numbered so finding a particular ship can be difficult. However, there appears to be a system of numbering the manifests. These numbers are included in the identification of the film and reel numbers below. The cover sheet for this list has a hand written note: Respectfully referred to Collector for a ruling as to the rights of the within named Chinese persons to land (signature) S.J. Ruddell, Dep Ch????? The evidence being satisfactory that the within described Chinese taken on board at Port Townsend and has not been ashore at any foreign port since this can be landed under Dept telegram of Mar 21, 1888, leaving the question as to their being illegally in the US to be ?? under the law system as prescribed in the restriction list. (signature) B.J. J?me Dep Col. There are two stamps placed on the cover sheet and then completed: Inspector Presbury on identification by (uncompleted blank) land the within named chinese(sic) persons in accordance with foregoing order (signature) SJ Ruddell I certify that I have landed the within named chinese(sic) persons (signature) WW Presbury The following columns had identical entries for all passengers and so were not included in the table: No of Certificate=no entries Complexion=Yellow Color of Eyes=Dark If accredited oficers of Chinese Government, state facts=no entries
