I, P.E. Le Fevre, Master of the Steamship "Vanderbilt" do solemnly, sincerely, and truly * that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Steamship at Havre and Southampton from which port said Steamship has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died. been eliminated due to the fact that it said USA for every one of the
passengers.
* The column " died on the voyage" has also been eliminated due to the fact
that no deaths were recorded during the voyage.
* Passengers numbered 1 through 251 are listed as travelling in 1st cabin,
passengers # 252 to 363 were in the 2nd cabin.

# 35 - the transcriber found it sometimes hard to distinguish between the
letters n and u therefore this surname may be Auger
# 41 - surname may possibly be Kohnstmann

# 51 - surname may be Benkhart
#116 - accent on the "e" in Fousse
#131 - the surname might be Schmitt with a slightly misplaced dot on the "i"
#132 - the surname may be Delporte

#164 - it appears that in this case the surname is listed first contrary to the
rest of the list where the surname follows the first name

Johann Mattinger - Picture
He is identical with passenger # 14 of the ship 'Admiral' that arrived
in New York on Dec 3, 1852 and he had previously returned to Germany as
a citizen of the United States.
His real name was Heinrich Wilhelm Mattinger, rumor has it that he used
a different first name in order to avoid being drafted by the Germans.
He travelled with his future wife, passenger # 328 Anna Maria Stork.

She was born in Iggelheim, Germany in 1836 and died in Clark Co. Indiana
in 1920.
Her husband was Heinrich Wilhelm Mattinger, they had four children,
three daughters and one son.

Her full name was Mrs. Daniel Bicknell Allen, maiden name:
Ethelinda Vanderbilt, she was a daughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt.
Passenger # 16: M Strakosh
Moritz or Maurice Strakosh, German-American, famous impresario, musician
and teacher. He taught in New York for some time. Amongst his pupils
was his sister-in-law, the famous prima donna Adlina Patti.
Together with his brother Max he conducted extensive operatic enterprises
in Europe and the United States. (Maurice Strakosh Opera Company)
