Correspondence 07/22/02 passenger #182 Higgins
I would like to correspond with people researching their Higgins family
history if they think they have an ancestor matching the following
description. I am looking for John Higgins who was born in Ireland
circa 1825. His date of birth has also been placed at 1832. He enlisted
in the Union Army in August of 1862. I have documented his country of
birth as Ireland and the approximate date of birth in both his Civil War
Muster Records and his prison records. His muster records also gives his
enlistment date. The John Higgins I am looking for migrated to
Kinderhook, Illinois which is in west central Illinois close to the
Mississippi River. I know he performed general labor work prior to the
Civil War. He, for example, built several field stone walls using the
old European method of stacking the the stones together without mortar.
Some of these walls still stand today.
The John Higgins on this ship is possibly my John. My hope is that
someone else will be research a Higgins ancestor and will respond.

If you find an ancestor on a ship on ISTG and would like to link to your email address or home page, please submit a short paragraph about the passenger, where settled, children, etc., with the name of the ship and date of arrival, and send to the transcriber at the bottom of the manifest or to the ISTG Production Coordinator. Be sure to include the name of the SHIP and VOLUME number.
