SS Samaria
I, Thomas Hewitson Master of the Steam Ship Samaria do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of Boston, is a full and perfect List of all the passengers taken on board the said vessel at Liverpool + Queenstown from which ports said vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, sex, calling of each of the said passengers, location of compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of the citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that the said List or manifest truly sets forth the number of the said passengers who have died on the said voyage, and dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died ; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as it can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. So help me God.

On 18 August 1890, the SS Samaria arrived in the Port of Boston.
You have asterisks by Passengers 31 and 32, Ernest age 11 and Horace
age 7.
Passenger #29 Susan Jarman was their Mother's sister in law. Passenger
#30 was their cousin. You are correct in thinking that Kate was a
spinster.
Passengers # 31 and 32, their last name was not Jarman but is Fisher.
Horace Hugh Fisher was my Grandfather. He did marry in 1909 and they
had 6 children, 2 of whom are still alive. Horace did become a
Naturalized citizen. He was born 3 June 1883 in London and he died
in Somerville, Mass. in 1958.

Correspondence 01/11/03 passenger #33 Smithsen
Frances Smithsen, Passenger 33, is Frances Milner Smithson, aboard the SS
Samaria, arriving in Boston on 18 August 1890. Her four children, Margaret,
Harold, John and Albert are with her. Albert was my grandfather. After
living in Massachusetts and Ohio, they eventually settled in Lacon, Marshall
County, IL in 1897. They followed my great-grandfather, Thomas Smithson, to
the US by about 3 months. I have been unable to find his ship on ISTG or
elsewhere. Tom Smithson
