I, Wm Christie, Master of the S/S Norwegian do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear, that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Port of Boston, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said vessel at Glasgow, Moville, and Galway, from which ports said vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, sex, calling, country of citizenship, native country, intended destination or location, number of pieces of baggage, location of compartment or space occupied, and date and causes of death of passengers as required by the Passenger Act of 1882; also a true statement so far as can be ascertained with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. and every passenger was indicated as a Settler, so those columns
were omitted.
^ Many first names were abbreviated by the Manifest recorder; I
indicated a raised last letter by a ^, as Tho^s for Thomas.
? A question mark ? indicates a letter that could not be read and
is usually explained in a footnote.
Passenger # 1 - The letter "a" appears in the age column for
him and several others later; F was his sex,
an obvious error; there was something undecipherable
after the Aft compartment notation.
Passenger # 2 - First name could be Lixilia, Lexisia,
Lifilia, Lefilia.
Passenger # 10, and others - Occupation Ho:Wife; I presume is
House Wife.
Passenger # 62 - Williams' first name might be Albert or Alex.
Passenger #109 - Alex obviously is a male name but not a wife.
Passenger #121 - There are Valley Falls in NY and elsewhere;
the manifest did not specify.
Passenger #142-144 - Do?herty looks like Docherty.
Passenger #169 - Anderson's first name was something like Kads.
Passenger #193, 310, 537, 564 - were listed as USA citizens.
Passenger #211 - Probably Ross, John; 3rd letter looks like f
in Rofs.
Passenger #212 - McFadzean, McFadgean, or McFadyean.

If you find an ancestor on a ship on ISTG and would like to link to your email address or home page, please submit a short paragraph about the passenger, where settled, children, etc., with the name of the ship and date of arrival, and send to the transcriber at the bottom of the manifest or to the ISTG Production Coordinator. Be sure to include the name of the SHIP and VOLUME number.
