Capt'n Helken, and ? oath on Holy Evangelly of Almighty God that the
above statement is just and true and that there are one hundred and
forty four passengers* over the age of five years. (Signed) Jacob Deems
German Passengers
Transcriber's Notes:
There seems to be a discrepancy between the number of passengers (142)
on the manifest, and the number mentioned in the note following the
list (144).
The towns of origin were not always spelled uniformly here, for
example, Holzhausen, Holshausen, Gesen, Geser. Other town names are probably
spelled phonetically such as Oznobruck (Osnabruck).
Some occupations were in German, weber (weaver), backer (baker).
And some were written phonetically, such as lhosmacker, which could
possibly be lacemaker, but only a guess.
Passenger Notes:
#1 no town of origin was filled in here.
#3 town could be spelled Mothingen or Mothinger.
#7 cannot be certain if there is a first initial there.
#10-12 town could be spelled Firsterner (there is a town called Furstenau).
#14 surname could be Geil or Geit.
#17 surname looks like Hoff or Koff.
#19 first initial possibly A; town looks like Schtrat.
#21 town looks like Pheine (there is a town called Rheine);
destination looks like it is spelled Louise, perhaps for St. Louis
or Louisiana.
#24-27 surname could be spelled Wissenberg or possibly Wiffenberg;
age for #24 could be 26 or 28.
#27 first name looks like Luc or Lui.
#28-33 surname looks like Stockann, does not look like it is spelled Stockmann.
#40-42 town could be spelled Hernberg.
#43 first initial could be I or J.
#45 same as #43.
#47 second initial could be A.
#48-50 occupation possibly fanmaker, but looks like tanmaker.
#50 first initial could be I or J.
#59-63 town could be Neubor or Noubor or similar.
#67 surname looks like Uhr or Elhr.
#68-73 town could be spelled Gesen or Geser, though is probably the same as
a few other passengers on list, Gesen.
#112-117 surname could be Schaif or Scharf.
#118-120 surname could be Jean or Jern or Joem or similar.
#121-125 surname looks like Folt or Falt or Fott; age for #121 could be
59 or 39; perhaps occupation is lacemaker.
#126-131 surname looks like Tott in this area, but probably the same
as #121-125, can't tell which is the right one; see #121 for occupation.
#132-136 surname could be spelled Puton or Puten or Putin or similar.
#137-142 surname could be spelled Lang or Sang.
