SS Kansas
I, Alex Fenton, Master of the KANSAS, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Port of Boston, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said vessel at Liverpool, from which port said vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, sex, calling, country of citizenship, native country, intended destination or location, number of pieces of bagage, location of compartment or spaces occupied, and date and cause of death of passengers, as required by the "Passenger Act of 1882"; also a true statement, so far as can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. So help me God. (signed) Alexander Fenton, Master.
Sworn to this 30th July 1890 before me (signed) J L Swift, Collector.

Transcriber's Notes:
With the exception of passengers #14 and #116, who were listed as being citizens
of the USA, the entries in the column headed "The country of which they are
citizens" were simple check marks on the rightmost side of the column adjacent
to the entries in the column headed "Native country." The transcriber's
interpretation is that, with the exception of passengers #14 and #116, the
passengers were citizens of their native countries.
Entries in the column headed "Number of pieces of Baggage" often contained
brackets indicating that baggage was shared among members of a family. In such
cases, the transcriber has placed the number of pieces of baggage shared by the
family alongside the first member of the family listed.
The compartments or spaces occupied by the passengers were as follows:
Passengers 1-20, Married People, occupied Forward Steerage Port Side.
Passengers 21-57, Single Women, occupied Forward Steerage Starboard Side.
Passengers 58-120, Single Men, occupied Steerage Aft.
Passengers 121-124, Refrigerator men occupied Rooms Forward Port Side.
Passengers 125-128, Cattlemen, occupied Rooms Aft Port Side.
Passengers 129-140, Cattlemen, occupied Rooms Amidships.
Passengers 141-153, Cattlemen, occupied Rooms Starboard Side.
Passenger 154, the Stowaway, was housed in the Forecastle.
Every entry in the column headed "Whether visitors only, or intending to be
permanent settlers" was ditto marks beneath the initials P.S. at the top of each
page. The transcriber's interpretation is that P.S. stood for Permanent Settler
and that all the passengers intended to be permanent settlers in the USA.
Given names in the manifest were sometimes abbreviated by omitting several letters
then superscripting the last letter or two.

Fre^k = Fredrick
