SS Hammonia
I, H. T. Schwursen, Master of the German s.s. Hammonia do solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York is a full and perfect list of all the Passengers taken on board of the said Hammonia at Hamburg from which port said Hammonia has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each said passengers, the location of the compartments or space of the said vessel occupied by each passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each, and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates, and names and ages of those who died; also the pieces of baggage of each, also a true statement so far as can be ascertained with reference to the intention of each alien passenger, as to a protracted sojourn in this country.

His younger brother Carl came over at a later time and they were both employed as farmers at St. Bonafacius, MN. He married Ottilie Berndt, November 11, 1894. Ottilie had come to America on a work permit through a Minneapolis employment agency. She had worked as a cook and housekeeper for the two Kobs brothers at St. Bonifacius. Frederick worked for Hineline and Company and later worked for General Mills for 30 Years. He died September 18, 1948 at his home in Northeast Minneapolis, MN. Pictures of - Frederick Kobs and his Family Frederick Kobs is the grandfather of Gretchen Condon, one of the Transcribers.

The steamship HAMMONIA, the third of three vessels of this name owned by the Hamburg-America Line, was built by J & G Thomson, Glasgow (yard #188), and was launched on 13 September 1882. 4,227 tons; 113,92 x 13,85 x 9,75 meters (length x breadth x depth of hold); straight bow, 2 funnels, 3 masts; steel construction, screw propulsion, compound engine, service speed 15.2 knots; accommodation for 150 passengers in 1st class, 100 in 2nd class, 700 in steerage; crew of 125.
The HAMMONIA was built as the Hamburg-America Line's response to Norddeutscher Lloyd's express steamship ELBE. 28 February 1883, maiden voyage, Hamburg - Havre - New York. 10 November 1889, last voyage, Hamburg - Southampton - New York. 1889, purchased by the French Line and renamed VERSAILLES. 1914, scrapped at Genoa.
