SS France
I, Perier d'Hauterive, Master of the SS France, do solemnly, sincerely and truly [swear] ("undersigned" written in space where "swear" should be) that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of Customs of the Collections District of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said [SS France] ("Havre" written in space intended for "SS France") at Havre from which port said [SS France]("Havre" again written in space intended for "SS France") has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the calling of each of said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each, and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates, and cause of death, and the names and ages of those who died; also, of the pieces of baggage of each, also a true statement so far as can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger, as to a protracted sojourn in this country. Column 5: In this colunm, the recorder has filled every blank space with ditto
marks making it difficult, at times, to determine if the dittoed
occupation is accurate...e.g. for a family of 10 where the father's
occupation is given as farmer, there are ditto marks for every member of
the family down to, and including, toddlers and infants; and where the
husband's occupation is given as Ingeneer, Merchant, Farmer, Schoe-maker,
etc., ditto's seem to indicate the wife was also an Ingeneer, Merchant,
Farmer, Schoe-maker, etc. Where these marks did not appear to be
appropriate, the column has been left blank. If you are researching this

Saturday.)

If you find an ancestor on a ship on ISTG and would like to link to your email address or home page, please submit a short paragraph about the passenger, where settled, children, etc., with the name of the ship and date of arrival, and send to the transcriber at the bottom of the manifest or to the ISTG Production Coordinator. Be sure to include the name of the SHIP and VOLUME number.
