PERSONAL NOTES:
The Rogers family is quite common, but the combination Milward Rogers is
probably unique to my branch. I found an unexpected census record for a
Milward H. Rogers in Iowa and from that a whole line of US immigrants from
the Shropshire, England Rogers of Osbaston family. A biography from the
Iowa link gave me an arrival date (incorrect as it turned out) and there was
Thomas and Elizabeth Rogers and their six children. After wintering in NY
they traveled to Delaware Co. Ohio; but in the fall the husband, Thomas,
died leaving Elizabeth and the children (15 to 4) alone in a strange land.
Elizabeth and Thomas, her eldest, raised the children and in 1840, Milward
went to Lee Co. Iowa and became an original pioneer and successful farmer.
The third son, Henry, took a new wife and an ox wagon on the 1853 Lost Wagon
Train to Oregon and pioneered near Cottage Grove, raising a family before
moving to Moscow, Idaho. in 1877 for yet more pioneering. With the family
gone, Thomas and Elizabeth went to Napa Co. California and pioneered the
Conn Valley outside St Helena. In 1880 Elizabeth, now 89, returned to her
son, Milward's place in Iowa where she died in 1882 and is buried near
