Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder,
not the transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional
information in the Transcriber's Notes below.
? Question Marks indicate letters that were indecipherable because of
the quality of the original document or the handwriting of the original
recorder. A number of entries appear to have been erased before the
microfilming was done. In such cases the number of questions marks
indicates, roughly, the length of the missing names. The erased names
were apparently those of US citizens. Please see numbered Passenger
Notes below for additional information.
^ Indicates a word that may be abbreviated, because the letter or letters
following the ^ appeared in superscript.
* All passengers were in Steerage during the voyage and all except #1004
intended a protracted sojourn in the United States, so these columns
were eliminated. (Passsenger #1004 was listed as "transient".)
* The numbers used here correspond to those shown originally as Steerage
passengers 623 to 890 on the Manifest, which numbered each class of
passengers separately.
* The destination country, generally shown as "Unit. St. of Am.", is
abbreviated here to "USA".
* Frequently several passenger entries, usually with the same surname, are
bracketed together with a single number in the pieces of baggage column,
presumably an indication that the people are traveling together. Groups
sharing baggage but not surnames are passengers #901-907 and #1035-1036.
774 - A possible umlaut appears over the letter a in the surname.
781-782, 865, 932-933 - An umlaut appears over the letter a in the surname.
788, 858, 909, 970 - An umlaut appears over the letter o in the surname.
799-802, 859, 890, 922, 926, 951-952, 968
- An umlaut appears over the letter u in the surname.
856, 958-960 - A probable umlaut appears over the letter o in the surname.
990, 1004 - A possible umlaut appears over the letter o in the surname.
830 - Missing letter is blotted - most probably an e or an a.
An umlaut appears over the letter a in the surname.
892 - Surname may be Dorl or Dorb.
900, 903, 904 - Entries were erased, but are reasonably decipherable.
900 to 907 - Entries are bracketed together with 9 pieces of baggage.
914 - Would have expected a final t on the surname, but letter is rendered
differently from similar endings and appears to be an i.
917 - Entry was erased. First name may be Hulda, third letter of surname
may be l or b.
918 - Entry was erased. Occupation may be painter.
1024 - Missing letter appears to be a w but may also be iv.
1035 & 1036 - Entries are bracketed with 1 piece of baggage.
