Bark E. J. Borgstede
I, H. G. Schweichel, Master of the Oldbg Bark E. J. Borgstede do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Bark E. J. Borgstede at the port of Bremen from which port said Bark E. J. Borgstede has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each said passenger, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant, and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.

An asterisk (*) indicates further information in the passenger notes.
A question mark (?) indicates indecipherable material.
The left hand edge of the orignal is badly damaged and most of the
given names are very difficult to decipher or are obliterated completely.
NOTE:
I believe the writer of this list has consistently omitted the letter "c"
and thus misspelled the names that should begin with Sch, such as Schmidt,
Schuler, Schomer,Schumacher,Scholmann, Schulte. He seems to omit the "c" in
these names, and this occurs with all these names for which the usual German
spelling would be "Sch..." See passengers numbered: 56, 62,69, 77-79,
80, 83, 171, 182, 244-249. See also entry #234 for the word butcher
(buther?).
He also seems to have omitted using umlauts. It is highly unusual to have a
long list of German names such as this with so few umlauts.
All ages under one year were recorded as a fraction, ie: 1/4, 1/2, 3/4.
These have been changed to months by the formatter.

11-18 Fourth letter of surname unclear; may be "r" or "s" so name could be
