SS Devonia
I, ????? Young, Master of the Steam Ship "Devonia", do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said vessel at Glasgow and Londonderry, from which port said vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the calling of each of said passengers, the location of compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country or citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement so far as it can be ascertained with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. So help me God. (signed) H. Young. Sworn to this July 9th, 1883 before me. (signed) R???????.
List or Manifest of all the Passengers taken on board the Devonia whereof H. Young is Master, from Glasgow via Moville, burthen 4400 tons.
Columns represent: given name, surname, age, sex, calling, the country of which they are citizens, intended destination or location, location of compartment or space occupied, number of pieces of baggage, transient, or in transit, or intending protracted sojourn.

Transcriber's Notes:
The intended destination of all the passengers was the United States
of America, and therefore that column was omitted from this transcription.
Also, no passenger was listed as having died during the voyage.
The page created by the National Archives and Records Administration preceding
the manifest states that the ports of embarkation were Glasgow and Londonderry.
However, the actual manifest lists the ports of embarkation as Glasgow and
Londonderry, and later as Glasgow via Molville. It is possible the ship made
stops at both Londonderry and Moville after departing from Glasgow.
The person recording the manifest abbreviated many of the passengers' names and
occupations. A few examples of the more commonly used abbriviations include:
Jas = James Mgt = Margaret Andw = Andrew
Hy = Henry W^m = William Edw = Edward
Chas = Charles Lab = Labourer Sevt = Servant
*5 Passenger's occupation is too faint to read, but might be "Crew Man".
*7 First name appears to be written as "Daw", but might possibly be "Dan".
*8 Passenger's occupation is too faint to read; It appears to be "Buichen",
but might be "Builder".
*11 Passenger's occupation is too faint to read; Last three letters appear to
be "wer". Could possibly but not certainly be "Brewer".
*20 Surname appears to be "Gronge", but might be "Grange".
*25 First digit of passenger's age is too faint to read, but might be "4".
*26 Passenger's citizenship is possibly "Ireland".
*37 Passenger's occupation is not readable, but appears written as "Uptrian".
*40 Surname appears written as "Noss", but could possibly be "Ross".
*41 Passenger's citizenship is not readable, but ends in "land". It is not
"Ireland"; It is probably "Scotland".
*73 Surname is not entirely readable. The questionable letters appear to be "br".
*114 First name appears to be "Senn".
*164 First name appears to be "Elis", but could be a poorly written "Chas".
*172 Surname appears to be "Guinn", but might possibly be "Quinn".
