Bark Clara
I, H. Hilmer, Master of the Germann Bark "Clara" do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subsribed by me and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Cusoms of the Collection District of Baltimore is a true and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said bark "Clara" at Bremen from which port said Vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant: and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage and the names and ages of those who died.
Sworn to this 17th May 1873 So help me God, H. Hilmer
Before me David W. Gray,(port authority signature)
List or Manifest of all the Passengers taken on board the german bark "Clara" whereof, H. Hilmer, is Master from Bremen, burthen 399 tons.

Recap:
151 full (adults)
73 children (2 of them died)
32 sucklings and one (3 of them dead) signed: H. Hilmer, Bark Clara
an weakness
Transcriber's Notes:
A question mark (?) indicates indecipherable material.
An asterisk (*) indicates further information in these footnotes.
Passenger Notes:
15 Iova presumably means Iowa--the writer is spelling it like it would be
pronounced by a German.
24 Presumably the wife of the previous entry, but the original is damaged
and the information in this column is obliterated.
28-36 First letter of surname may be an "F" or "H" so name may be Flaski or
Haski.
42 Passenger's country of origin is listed as Württemberg.
43 Final letters of surname are faded. It looks like the fourth letter
goes below the line, like a j or an f or p and then at least one letter
more.
68 Surname has an umlaut over the "o." The first letter of the name is
unclear but may be a "K" so name could be Köppe (Koeppe or Koppe).
73-77 Final letter of surname unclear; may be h or k thus the name could be
Meck or Mech.
77 Note states: died 10 April, cause weakness.
84-94 Surname has an umlaut over the "u" so may be spelled Buebesau.
102-104 Surname may be either Barnke or Burnke.
105-108 Surname is faded--looks like it may be Klandermann or something similar.
114 Note states: died 15 of Mai of weakness.
118 Note states: died 13 of April of weakness.
123 Destination listed as Friesland may be an error, indicating instead the
country of origin--a part of Prussia, Ostfriesland?
129 Surname seems to have been place before the given name--I believe the
name should be Otto Lollweg. Thus passengers #130 - 135 would be his
wife and children.
130-135 Surname unclear--seems to be Lallweg or Laltweg.
144 Note states: died 16th Mai, cause: consumption.
156 Surname has an umlaut over the "u" so may be spelled Kuehl.
157-159 Surname is faded--looks like it may be Schalk.
165-169 Final letters of surname are faded--looks like it may be Scholtz.
183-188 Surname unclear. I believe it may be Gaulk or Staulk or something
similar.
190-194 Surname may be something like Stackl.
195-196 Surname is faded, looks like it may be Kasin, Kazin, or Rasin/Razin.
197 Surname is faded--looks like it might be Granske or something similar.
198 Given name looks like it may be Julias.
212 Note states: died 8 Mai, cause, dropsi.
235 Surname is written as Richthoff first; then the "hoff" is crossed off
and "fort" is written above it. The next entry #236 then has the
surname, Richtfort, written out.
240-244 Difficult to determine if surname is Schalz or Schulz.
252 Note states that this passenger was born on board on the 4th of April,
presumably to passenger #180. She was named after the ship!
National Archives and Records Administration, Film M255, Reel 21.
