Personal Notes: Of the 119 passengers aboard the Charles Ferdinand, 78 are counted as coming from the small area to the east and northeast of Bremen which, at the time, was part of the Kingdom of Hannover. Almost all of them were on their way to settle in Missouri near where the counties of Benton, Morgan and Pettis come together. Some stopped on their way overland and never made it to Missouri or came along later. #37 - John Ficken: Joined his brother Peter Ficken in Cincinnati, who had come to USA a year earlier. Married in Cincinnati 1846, died there 1867. (Peter joined group below 1839) Several families and individuals listed travelled directly to Benton County, Missouri and were among the first to enter land in the Lake Creek area northeast of Cole Camp in the fall of 1837: #32, listed as Hinrich Holschen, but really Hinrich Holtzen, with his family was one of those very early settlers in Benton Co., MO near Cole Camp. He was one of four siblings from the villages of Breddorf and Westertimke to immigrate to this part of Missouri. Hinrich's younger brother, David, was the first to arrive about 1836 and is thought to have been the forward scout for many of his countrymen to follow. The 'servant girl', Tibke Blom (Blohm) who traveled with the Hinrich Holtzen family was making the voyage to become David's bride. A sister, Anna Holtzen who married Harm Schnakenberg, was the next to immigrate about 1841 and settle near the Benton/Morgan Co. border with their six children. The fourth sibling, Peter, arrived with his family in the late 1840's. Anna Holtzen Schnakenberg was the gggrandmother of this transcriber. Henry died at Lake Creek 1866. #38-40 Peter Knoop family. First entered Lake Creek land, but moved to adjoining Morgan County where Peter died 1860s. #50-55 - Henry Gehrs family. Also entered Lake Creek land, but moved to adjoining Morgan County. #52 Herman Gehrs married #54 Metta Papen in Benton County 1840, settled first in adjoining Pettis County, then moved to Morgan County where he died 1869. #56-58 - John Gerken family. John and son Peter entered Lake Creek land, but moved to Morgan County a few years later, and apparently left that area before 1860. #68 - Christoph Frederick Gerlt. Married #53 Catherine Gehrs and settled Lake Creek, died there 1888. If you are researching these families, please visit German Immigrants Correspondence December 8, 2003 passengers #12 & 13 Meier Passenger # 12, Hinrich Meier was my great, great, great grandfather. Passenger # 13, Johann Meier was his son. We have much information about Johann Meier, who eventually died in Nebraska in 1894. We believe on the basis of records in Germany that Hinrich Meier died approximately in 1839. We don't know where he died. However, his son Johann (John) was married in Cincinnati in 1842. I would be very appreciative if anyone has information about Hinrich Meier (Meyer later in this country) to contact me. Don Clausing
