I, J Cone, do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest of Passengers, subscribed with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of Customs for the District of New York, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the C. Jerome Junior whereof I am Master, from Havre.

* The recorder of this manifest appears to have listed Occupation, The
country to which they severally belong, and The country in which they
intend to become inhabitants at the top of each page with ditto marks (")
extending to the bottom regardless of age, sex, or family affiliation.
* The Occupation is recorded as Farmer for all except the last passenger.
Therefore, this column has been omitted.
* The Country in which they intend to become inhabitants is listed as New
York throughout the manifest. Therefore, this column has been omitted.
* The column Died on Voyage has no entries. However, there are several Xs
in the Note column and it is assumed these indicate deaths. These will
be noted under Passenger Notes.
Passenger Notes:
# 43 - X in Notes column. Possibly died on the voyage.
# 78 - There is an umlaut over the u of Stützel.
# 87 - X in Notes column. Possibly died on the voyage.
#111 - Age was recorded on the manifest as 4 1/2. This has been changed by
the formatter to 4y 6m, indicating 4 years 6 months.
#132 - X in Notes column. Possibly died on the voyage.
#154 - There is an umlaut over the o of Döring.
#156 - There is an umlaut over the u of Müller.
#176 - X in Notes column. Possibly died on the voyage.
#183-#187 - There is an umlaut over the o of Göring.
#206 - This appears to be the beginning of a new page where the recorder
indicated a different country to which the passengers belonged. It
is unlikely that the 4-year-old would come from Prussia while the
rest of the family came from Bavaria.
#220 - X in Notes column. Possibly died on the voyage.
#255-#262 - The first five members of this family appear to come from Prussia,
while the remaining youngest members come from France. It is the
formatter's belief that the names indicate that the entire family
came from France.
#264 - X in Notes column. Possibly died on the voyage.
#265 - There is an umlaut over the a of Schäfer.
#279 - X in Notes column. Possibly died on the voyage.
JOHANN (JOHN) SCHNELL
John eventually made his way West after apprenticing in the New York area to
learn carpentry skills. He settled in Pepin County, Wisconsin and, in 1858
married Viktoria Smith (Schmidt) who was born in Haslach, Baden, Germany in
1834. Their union gave rise to 10 children, 8 of which reached the age of
majority. John became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States in 1860.
His and Viktoria's progeny are scattered all over the United States in the
Year 2000; but most look to the Upper Midwestern States as home. For further
