Correspondence 03/27/02 passenger #46-53 Herb
Thank you a thousand times for your translation of this ship list. The
individuals numbered 46 through 53 are my relatives. Here are the details:
Wilhelmina Herb; her parents, Heribert and Cecilia, and her brothers and
sisters, came from Altdorf, Freiburg, in the Baden region of Germany.
They settled on a farm five miles south of Sandusky, Ohio. In 1848 she
married Ludwig Jacob Schmidt. Together, they had eight children:
Ludwig, Heribert, Cecilia, Wilhelmina, John, Anthony, Mary and Theresa.
Mr. Schmidt died in 1866 and Wilhelmina remarried in 1875. Her second
husband, Johan William Rampe, a widower, also had eight children so
their combined household had 16 children. The Schmidts are my
great-great-grandparents. Joyce Sziebert
Correspondence 05/19/2004 passengers #33-44 Straub and Kneisch
I have futher information on two related families on this list:
33-38, Erasmus STRAUB, widower, and his five unmarried children; and
39-44, Ludwig KNEISCH (a.k.a. Joseph KNAISCH) and his wife, Josepha
(STRAUB) KNEISCH, daughter of Erasmus STRAUB, and their four children.
