Transcriber's Notes: Passenger numbers have been assigned by ISTG. Manifest lists country first, for ease in reading city has been typed first. Country states Jugoslavia and not Yugoslavia. Permanent residence within the meaning of this manifest shall be actual or intended residence of one year or more. Column 2 is used for Government officials only (this is blank except for passengers under 16 yrs. and for those there's a stamp "UNDER 16"). Columns 14-32 are under the section listed as "Arriving at Port of New York July 4th, 1921". In several cases the passenger is traveling with another relative and in column 12 this is indicated (Accomp. by the mother). In several cases, there are numbers and dates notated. It is customary for notation to be made at the time of the ship's arrival or after the ship's arrival, possibly several years later. For more information, please see the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) website: Glossary of Passenger List Annotations Reviewer's Notes: The passengers that are not US citizens have numbers, such as 1648 or 4648, written in the language coloumn. This means that they were tested for their reading ability. Usually there is a number in front of the group of four. The first number represents a number for a certain language, the other numbers are a number for a certain sentence.
