Ship Werra
I, Julius Barre, master of Ship Werra do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of Customs of the Collections District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Ship Werra at Bremen, Germany, from which port said Ship Werra has now arrived; and that on the said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of the said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who have died. Columns represent: given and surname, age (in years and months on some children), sex, occupation, country to which they severally belong, port or city of destination (NY = New York), part of the vessel occupied by each passenger during the voyage (this column was eliminated and section headings used at the start of each section), number of pieces of luggage, and the type of transit recorded for each passenger. Many given names are abbreviated or shortened with superscript used. Superscript is represented by a dash between the two parts of the name.

* Numbering on the original manifest begins with 1 in each section of the ship.
Continuous numbering has been used throughout this ship. Therefore the death
of passenger 1235 on the manifest, is passenger 1386 in this transcription.
* Many given names are abbreviated or shortened with superscript used.
Superscript is represented by a ^ between the two sections of the name
(i.e. Wilh^m).
* Sometimes G was used to represent Germany and sometimes it wasn't used. The
names of cities have letters missing, presumably to shorten the writing task.
(i.e. Wurttemberg is spelled Wurttberg, Wurttembg, etc.)
* The baggage column has brackets that connect groups with one count on bags
making it appear that some have a lot of baggage and others have none.
* Transient passage = prepaid passage from Bremen to New York, regardless of final
destination of the passenger.
Protracted sojourn (P/S) = prepaid passage from Bremen to the final destination,
which could be New York or other location indicated for each passenger.
* The recapitualtion is written in two charts. The totals on the first chart
equal 1,404, but the second chart accounts for only 1,396 passengers.

1205 There is a hole in the manifest where the baggage count would be

1231 Diez could be Dietz. He is the last passenger at the bottom of the sheet, and the first passengers at the top of the next sheet are named Dietz.
1243 Age could be 20
1253-1255 Schreitles could be Schreittes
1264 First name and sex designation don't seem to match
1266 Age could be 22, 32, 52 or 82, the manifest has a hole where the baggage
count would be

count. This woman is the Steerage Passenger 1235 who is mentioned in
the recap as having died on the voyage.
1398 Lanermann could be Fanermann, age could be 18
