I, Alex Button, master of the Ship United States do solemnly, sincerely, and truly affirm that the following List or Manifest, subscribed with my name and is now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New York, contains to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all Passengers received on board the Ship United States whereof I am Master, from Liverpool.So help me God. Alex Button Sworn before me this May 3, 1842 C.A. Church

1 The first 16 passengers were not numbered.  They were cabin passengers.
  The numbering began with passenger 17 but in order to have a sense of
  continuity I began the numbering with passenger 1.

3 #14  The first letter of the Surname could be an F.
4 #20 I'm not sure just what the age of this infant is.
5 #65-70 The last letter could be an x but I'm not sure.
6 #149 I can't even hazard a guess as to what this letter is.
7 #185 This letter may be an F or a T.
7 #201 There is a flaw in the manifest at this point and the name is unreadable
8 #202-206  These are Ditto of the 201 name so unable to read.
