RMS Teutonic
I, Peter John Irving, Master of the R.M.S. "Teutonic" do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said vessel at Liverpool and Queenstown, from which port said vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the calling of each of said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the last residence and country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement so far as it can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. So help me God.
Sworn to this 27 May 1891, before me John (surname cannot be read)
List or Manifest Of all the Passengers taken on board the R.M.S. "Teutonic" whereof P. J. Irving is Master, from Liverpool and Queenstown burthen 4244 tons.

Transcriber's notes:
* The use of an * indicates an error on the part of the original
recorder, not the transcriber, or is used to call attention to
additional information in the Transcriber's notes below.
? The ? marks indicate letters or words that cannot be read due
to the quality of the original document.
* On the original manifest, the 983 steerage passengers were
numbered consecutively, after which the 196 second cabin
passengers and the 217 first cabin (saloon) passengers were
each numbered starting again at one. This transcription
numbers all passengers consecutively.
* Abbreviations used in the original document included a colon,
not a period, after some abbreviated first names (e.g. Chas:,
Thos:, etc). In other cases, a few letters of the name or
occupation were left out and the final letter raised with a
period under it. These I have transcribed with an apostrophe
for the missing letters and a period after the last letter
(e.g. Mich'l. for Michael, W'm. for William, Lab'r. for
laborer, For'd. Stge. for Forward Steerage.)
* Christiana, listed as the last residence of many passengers,
is now Oslo, Norway.
825 - The first three questioned letters are too faint
to read. The letter following the n looks like u,
but could possibly be n, also
830 - 832 - Perhaps the last residence is a misspelling of
Glassan in Westmeath
834 - The missing letter is either a or u. Ros. refers
to County Roscommon
835 - Queenstown, in County Cork, has been renamed Cobh
841 - The given name probably is Martin. The page is
torn and the questioned letters are missing
842 - The given name has been torn off the page
843 - The destination may be Providence. The last two
letters may have faded completely
844 - Castleisland should be one word
846,847 - Queen's County has been renamed County Laois (also
called Leix)
848 - The initial P in the last residence may be a faded R,
and the place may be Rathcormack, in Cork
852 - Same as #830
853 - The second letter of the abbreviated given name could
be a, o or u. A descending letter from the line above
touches the third letter. It could be c, e or l
857 - The surname initial is too faded to read. There may
be another faded letter between the initial and the r
864 - An inkblot has covered the last (probably two)
letters of the given name. The first digit of the
age has faded; it might be 2
867 - The questioned letters are too faint to be certain of,
but the destination could be Brownsford, a place in
Kilkenny
871 - The questioned letter is very faint, but is probably P.
Pullough, Clare was written and crossed out in the
destination column
880 - The questioned letters are too faint to read except
that the smudged letter between o and l is either
o or b
881 - The surname is very faint; the last two letters may
be an. None of the letters descend below the line
or are tall letters. The second word of the last
residence looks like Is:, an abbreviation for island.
However, although there are several Oldcastles in
Ireland, I couldn't find an island of that name
882 - Surname may be Kearns. The first letter is faded,
but may be a K. Queen's County is now known as
County Laois
889 - Cincinnati is misspelled
890 - The questioned letters could be en or ue. The closest
place I could find to match that was Ballyhegan in
Carlow
892 - The given name has been torn off the page. The
surname is very faint, but might be Howie or Hoare
893 - Part of the given name has been torn off. The age is
very faint, but may be 26
895 - The missing surname letter looks like u or a faded a
with the top missing. Although Tobin seems the more
common Irish name, Tubin and Tabin seem more likely.
The second letter is not connected from the top of the
o to the b, but from the bottom, as an a or u would be
connected
897 - Perhaps the last residence is a misspelling of
Anascaul on the Dingle peninsula
899 - There is a Moate in Westmeath, but not in Meath
901 - Queenstown, in County Cork, has been renamed Cobh
904 - The missing letters are too faded to be read although
the letter before the h may descend below the line
908 - The last residence is written with double l and double
n, but the only similar Irish place I could find is
Kilcummin
913 - The questioned letters are too faint to be read
914 - 917 - There are two or three faded letters in the surname.
None descend below the line and the questioned letter
has faded. The last residence may be Belmullet in
Mayo, although Bell is written on the manifest with a
double l. The letters missing in the given names of
the wife and children have been torn off the page.
918,919 - Both names are very faint. The surname appears to be
about 5 letters long, with the first three letters
above the line. The initial might possibly be C or E.
The residence may be Belmullet in Mayo, although Bell
is written here with a double l, and the questioned
letter has completely faded.
920 - The given name is an abbreviation and is quite faded.
The third letter may be a, o or u. The residence may
end in silaagh, but this too is unclear
942 - The given name has faded. The first letter is
probably J, but could be an I. The third letter might
be m or n, and there may or may not have been other
letters
944 - The initial letter of the given name is ripped off,
but is most likely P
945 - The first part of the given name is ripped off. It
may have been one, two or three letters. The part
that remains may be ama, aura, or something else.
946,947 - Although a crease in the paper makes the first
initial resemble either an E or a C, the surname is
probably Connell. The remaining questioned letters
are hard to discern, but none are tall letters or
descend below the line
952 - The first initial of the last residence looks like U,
but the ink has faded where the right side of the W
and the next letter would be. Probably it is meant
to be Waterford
956 - Cincinnati is misspelled
958 - The surname could be Finucane or Finncane. The last
residence might be a misspelling of Doras in Tyrone
961 - The first digit of the age is faded. The abbreviation
W'ford. in the residence might be Wexford or Waterford,
although I can't find Old parish in either place, or
in any other.
968 - The first letter of the given name is unreadable, but
is probably P. The last name could be Devaney. The
second two letters are either ev or w, and the last
two letters are quite faded. However, the last one
appears to go below the line.
969 - A rip in the page eliminates part of the given name,
but the third letter descends below the line and is
probably g. The name is most likely Hugh. K'gs.
County refers to Kings County, which was renamed
Offaly.
970 - A rip in the page eliminates part of the given name,
but the third letter descends below the line. The
name is probably Hugh. The missing letter in the
last residence is probably e, but could be an i
971 - The age is too faded to read. The last residence
is probably Menagh, although the second letter could
be an i
972 - The first digit of the age has faded away. The last
residence might be Ballymacdonnell, although the last
part of the name was squeezed into the space, and
only one l is visible.
978 - The given name could be Mary or Marg. It looks more
like Marg but is not followed by a colon indicating
an abbreviation.
979,980 - The ages are completely faded. The last residence
is probably Ballymahon. There is a descending letter
after the l, and a faded space where the m would be.
983 - The surname could be Tarney, but the missing letters
are very indistinct.
987 - The given name is partially torn off. The top halves
of the first three letters are visible. They might
be Lou, although only the left top half of the u is
visible
988 - The given name is torn off. The missing letter in
the surname could be l or t. The ink is smudged and
what looks like a crossbar on a t could be smudged ink.
989 - The given name is torn off except for the final letter
which may be a d. This is followed by a colon,
indicating that this is an abbreviation
990 - The first initial is torn off.
1013 - The given name has been torn off
1014 - The given name and part of the surname is torn off.
However, the lower part of the first letters of the
surname are visible. The first letter may be W.
The next one (or two?) do not descend below the line.
The letter before h descends below the line. The
name might be Wrightman, or perhaps Wightman.
Pittsburg could be the Pennsylvania city misspelled,
or possibly the correctly spelled Pittsburg in Kansas,
Texas or California
1023 - This surname is probably Meehan, but could be Mahan.
The letters are quite faded. The last residence is
a long name with some tall letters, but only the ton
is readable
1024 - The surname is probably Donovan, but the last letter
is faded, as is his last residence
1031 - The surname could be Saltanstall or Sattanstall.
The crossbar of the t touches the first t but does
not cross it completely
1040,1041 - The given names have been partly torn off and the
only letters visible are written after the question
marks
1046 - The given name is Johua; perhaps a misspelling of
Joshua? Or the u could be n, Johna, not very likely.
There was no indication that this was an abbreviation
1065 - The middle initial is torn off the page
1066 - The entire name is torn off the page, except for the
final two letters
1067 - Part of the initial of the surname is torn off. It
could be Prisk, Frisk or Trisk. What shows is a
J-shaped letter without the crossbar at the top,
having a loop like a small o attached to the top
right side of it. The portion directly left of it,
and the portion above it has been torn off.
Ishpeming is a town in Michigan
1073 - The last residence could be Rumilton, Rennilton,
Ramilton or something else entirely. None of the
letters go below the line. The destination has
faded but is probably New York
1074 - The last letters of the destination have faded
1078 - 1080 - The middle letters of the last residence have faded,
but do not go below the line. It is probably
Manchester
1081 - The given name has faded, but there is a curve
showing that looks like the bottom of a J, followed
by a space, and then the remnants of an o. Name
might be the abbreviation Jno. The destination is
probably Manchester
1082 - 1086 - Although the questioned letters have faded, the
destination is probably Manchester
1092 - 1093 - There is a tear in the page here. Given name of 1092
is probably Hugh. What looks like the top of a C
starts the surname, the next letter is missing, and
then what could be part of an a is visible. The
name may be Crawford
1094 - The second letter of the surname could be a or o.
The connection to the next letter is not clearly
seen. The name is either Cowley or Cawley. The
questioned letters of the last residence are too
faded to read. They are neither tall letters nor
do they go below the line. I of M might refer to
the Isle of Man
1101 - The nationality is probably written as Swede, the
usual word used to list Swedish passengers on this
ship. The S is visible, and is followed by what
could be a very faded w. The rest has faded
completely. But the last residence is Stockholm,
and the name is Scandinavian
1104 - M'cht. probably stands for Merchant.
