Transcriber's Notes: * Captains statements notes that all the passengers from Germany were "farmers" going to "Pennsylvania" Passenger 4 had a child during the voyage who was named "Louise" Passengers 53, 57, 63, and 163 died on the voyage.
Passenger 36 is my great great grandfather; passenger 27 is his second cousin. They were born and lived in Püttlingen, Saarland, Prussia. When they left Prussia each family had 3000 Talers, according to a German correspondent I have. Both families first went to Lower St. Clair Township, Allegheny County, PA (just south of Pittsburgh); mined coal for a living; in five or six years both bought farms in Butler County, PA near Herman, PA. Two of Henry's sons stayed in Allegheny County; one of them remained a miner the other worked in construction and as a saloon keeper. His other two sons went to Butler County and went into farming. All of Peter's sons eventually went to Allegheny County and some worked as miners and glass workers,
On the ship with the Baldaufs, passengers 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 35 were probably also from the Püttlingen area and eventually resided in Butler County near Herman, PA.
The passenger list was made by a Frenchman, no doubt, who made all the names French: Balthauf for Baldauf, Pierre for Peter, etc.
