DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, Fred'k Watkins, Master of the SS City of Richmond do solemnly,
sincerely and truly (blank) that the following List or Manifest
subscribed by me and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs
of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of
all the Passengers taken on Board the said SS City of Richmond at
Liverpool from which port the said Steamer has now arrived; and that on
said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of
each of said Passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during
the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country to
which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List
or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died
on said Voyage, and the names and ages of those who died. So help me
God.

Transcriber's Notes:
* Passengers 587 through 708 were steerage passengers.
* Passengers 709 through 763 were cabin passengers.
* The recorder listed steerage passengers by first and last name
in the log but cabin passengers were listed by last name first,
then title, then initials of the passengers. For consistency,
all passengers were listed with the first name followed by the
last.
* The occupations of all of the male cabin passengers were Gent
(short for Gentleman). This was done for all the male
passengers whether they were a Captain as in the case of
passengers 748 and 757 or a title of doctor as in the case of
passenger 756.
* The use of an * indicates a possible error as written by the
original recorder. Examples are as follows:
Passenger 602 Written as Elen by recorder but could possibly be
Ellen.
Passenger 613 listed as Alfrid could possibly be Alfred
Passengers 614, 620, and 622 listed as female, however, the name
is usually associated with the male gender.
Pasenger 646 listed as child in the occupation column but age
listed was 25. Possibly a Labourer since balance
of page was lab.
Passenger 689 Occupation looks like lawer (Possible mispelling
of lawyer?)
Passenger 738 listed as being from England, yet his wife and
son are listed as being from United States.
This may or may not be a mistake.
? The use of a ? indicates letters that could not be read due
to the handwriting of the original recorder. Example are as
follows:
Passenger 591 Could possibly be Jan G.
Passenger 598 Could possibly be Emil (usually associated with
the male gender).
Passenger 620 Could be Jobau.
Passenger 646 Could be Bobaur
Passenger 652 Could be Rud but I think that it looks more
like Reed
Passenger 654 Could be Elucl. The way it is written it is
difficult to read.
Passenger 692 Could be E. F. Wood
Passengers 673, 674 & 675 spelled Timmins by recorder. Could
possibly be Timmons.
Passenger 711 could be Bonzgreu
Passenger 725 could be G. A.
Passenger 737 could be Stony.
* In some cases the original recorder used abbreviations for the
first names. These names were transcribed as written but are
listed here in full for searching convenience:
Passenger 606 Joseph was abbreviated as Jos.
Passenger 616 August or Augustine abbreviated as Aug.
Passenger 618 Abbreviated as Per. Possibly full name is Percy
but not sure.
Passengers 648,653, & 707 Patrick was abbreviated as Pat'r.
Passengers 657 & 660 Michael was abbreviated as Michl
Passenger 676 Catherine abbreviated as Cath.
Passenger 689 Robert abbreviated as Robt.
Passengers 705 & 708 Thomas abbreviated as Thos.
Passenger 754 Joseph abbreviated as Jos.
Passenger 756 Theodore abbreviated as Theo.
