Transcribers notes:
* The use of an * indicates an omission or error made by the original
recorder.
* The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read due to
quality of original document.
Passenger Notes:
Passengers #1-8: First ? may be an 'o ' but second ? impossible to decipher.
Passenger #16: ? may be either an 'n' or 'u'.
Passenger #32: ???? small wavy lines but there may be an 'e' and 'i' or 'm'
there.
Passengers #33-35: Manifest has 'ditto' under passenger 33 but transcriber
feels their surname is the same as Passenger 32 as it is
doubtful #35 would be 'Barbara Barbara'.
Passenger #42: Manifest has Maria entered twice with same statistics so
could be a duplicate entry.
Passenger #51: ? may be either an 'r' or 'v'.
Passenger #54: ?? may be 'ri' or 'u'.
Passenger #59: ??? may be 'phi'.
Passengers #63-69: Surname may be 'Leston'.
Passenger #71: ?? in surname may be 'c' or 'm' - very difficult to discern.
Passenger #76: ?? may be a 'c' or 'o' and an 'm'. Second ?? may be 'n' or
'u' and a 'd'.
Passenger #78: ?? may be 'rr'.
Passenger #83: ? may be a 'd' or 'j'.
Passenger #96: ? might easily be an E or C.
Passengers #117-121: First letter of the surname is a small 'f'.
Passengers #128-129: The ink is very faint; the ?? may be 'mi'.
Passengers #142-144: Last 2 letters illegible.
Passenger #149: ? is either 'a' or 'o'. ?? may be 'ed'.
Passenger #150: ? actually looks like a small 'p' but could be an 'a' or
'o' with a beginning downstroke of the pen.
Passenger #166: *Manifest has Martin entered twice at age 3 with same
statistics so may be a duplicate entry.
Passenger #196: ? may be an 'n' or 's'.
Passenger #217: ?? could be 'on'.
Passenger #219: *Although there is no indication of 'ditto', surname is
probably Sutter as is passenger #218.
Passengers #220-221: There is a 'ditto' indication under Marie of Passenger
219. Transcriber feels this is probably the entire Sutter
family.
Passengers #222-225: ?? may be an 'm' or 'ss'.
Passenger #230 and 233: *Manifest has Jacob entered twice with the same
statistics so may be a duplicate entry.
Passengers #250-52: ?? may be 're' or 'u'.
Correspondence 09/26/01 passengers #126 & 127 REBOHLS
Phillippine Rebohls (also Rebholz) was my great, great great grandmother.
I do not have any info on Passenger 126, Louis Rebohls, who I believe
was her brother. She married John Fleckstein in NYC in 1849; 2 identified
children: Mary Fleckstein, my great, great grandmother (1849 - 1928) and
Catherine Fleckstein (1852 - 1927).
A photo of Mary appears on my Family website
I would like for anyone related to her to contact me - James Riordan
Correspondence from Michael Palmer:
Turning to Francois Jaquet (passenger #80), the
father of this family, a 'J.E. Jaquet', 35 years old, arrived at New York on
31 May 1845 on board the packet Ship Oneida, James Funk, master, 40 days
from Harve, with merchandise, 15 cabin, and 200 steerage passengers, to Boyd
& Hincken; there had been two births among the passengers during the voyage
(National Archives Microfilm Publication M237, roll 57 (Family History
Library microfilm #0002303), list #339 for 1845)
Transcriber Note: Although the above says age 35 for Jaquet, the age shown
on the manifest is age 30. There is no indication on the list of what class
passengers traveled in.
Correspondence 11/21/02 passengers #208-211, 267-271 Russinger/Bussinger
Passengers 208 - 211 are distant relatives of mine. The surname is actually
Bussinger - sometimes, as on this list, written as Russinger. This
family left Böckten, Basel, Switz and settled in Wyandot County, Ohio. Son
Johannes married first Emily Troup and then Elizabeth Zehrbach. They
eventually settled in Hancock County, Ohio. Daughter Catherine married John
Jacob Arney (most likely Erni in Switz) and, after living in Wyandot County
for a time moved to Clark County, Illinois.
Passenger 271 is Hans Jacob Bussinger my ggrandfather. His father is
passenger 267 - Mathias Bussinger. Siblings of my ggrandfather are Barbara
(268), Mathias (269) and Anna Maria (270). This family left Ormalingen,
Basel, Switz and settled initially in Fairfield County, Ohio. Hans Jacob
married here and, after a short stay in Hocking County, ended up in Wood
County, Ohio. Barbara and her brother Mathias moved to Whitley County,
Indiana - neither ever married. Anna Maria married Heinrich Brack(Henry
Brock), also from Ormalingen, in Fairfield County and soon moved to Whitley
County, Indiana also.
You have a number of surnames spelled as Madorg. I believe the name is written
on the list as Madory in most places and is actually Madorii in Switzerland.
Based upon other info I have, more of the people on this ship came from
Switzerland but I can't be specific as to which ones and the passenger list
seems to show them all from Austria. Ray Green
Correspondence 06/24/2003 passengers #104-109 Rahn
My great grandfather was listed as Joseph RAHN instead of Justus, but his age
was correct and all of his family were listed correctly by name and age. Most
of the originations were blank so one would assume that he was from Austria as
it is the last place listed, however, he was from Hesse Darmstadt. Family lore
has it that his wife Elisabeth (born Seipel) died on this trip but there was no
mention of it so I ordered the film from Salt Lake to read for myself, but
learned nothing new. Your transcribing was right on. Since no notes were made
about anything by that Captain, I assume it may have happened but then it may
not have. I tend to believe it as Justus left a letter to his children about
his life and that story was part of it.
Justus RAHN settled in Sonora township, Hancock County Illinois. He married
twice after Elisabeth's death; a widow named Clara Weigel and then to Barbara
Goodman who gave him five more children: Joseph in 1861, Adoline in 1863, Eliza
in 1864 (married Herman Ludloff), Albert C. in 1868 and Edward J. in 1871.
Justus died in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois on 10 February 1894. Nancy
