find his great-great grandfather on this ship. He is passenger number 43,
Ernst Strecker. Ernst was born in Alsfeld, Hesse, and after arriving
in the United States, he went to work on his maternal uncle's farm in
Monee, Will County, Illinois. He served in Company "C" of the 13th
Illinois Cavalry volunteers during the Civil War, and his records are
transcribed on Rootsweb in the Illinois Civil War Project.
After the war, Ernst was a farmer in Wisconsin and then a contractor
in Chicago. He died in 1906, and is buried at Montrose Cemetery in Chicago.
