Transcriber's notes:
* The * indicates a passenger that has some unusual information.
* The ? is used to indicate that the transcriber is unable to read the
passenger's name due to the script or damage to the copy.
General:
* Given names are often shortened by use of last letter being a superscript,
whereas an apostrophe is used herein to indicate that the last letter is a
superscript.
* The sex of females in this manifest is indicated by a long horizantal line
with a curly-que at each end, whereas in here the letter F is used to
indicate female.
* The number 6 in the manifest looks like the small Greek letter sigma in
almost all cases-there are a few places where the 6 looks like the number
that we all know is 6, and it definitely is not a zero.
* At the top of each page of the original manifest the passenger, whether
male or female, is said to have been a "Farmer"-see passengers 43, 87, 131
and 175; the exception to this is passenger 1. Also these were the only times
that the letter f is used to denote female, passengers 43 and 87. This also
indicates that the original manifest had about 43 passengers per page.
Passenger's Notes:
3 Occupation listed as "mechanic". The letter "v" in the surname might
be an "e" making the name Sehvan Schvan-neither of which are common
names to this transcriber.
4 through 8 -Surname might be Huch or Kuck.
30 The "r" and the "t" in the surname are questionable-but Graff is
what it looks most like, and Gratf is not too likely. The name is
partially crossed out. Scribbled 3 words in the occupation column
look like: "left at Cowes"-this could mean that this person embarked or
disembarked at Cowes. Cowes is on the Isle of Wight directly across
the English Channel from Havre.
32 A flourish like cross out though both names could make the surname
Maller to be Matter or Matter, or Malter. The last 2 letters of the
1st name might be in, ue, ui, ur or us. There are what might be ditto
marks under the phrase "left at Cowes" in Passenger #30. It may be a
coincidence but these are the only 2 passengers that have what may be
cross outs through portions of their names and this phrase.
36 The last 5 or 6 letters of the given name are also impossible for me to
interpret but a possibilty is Wilhelmine.
57 Surname could be Gabert or Gabest.
58 Last letter in given name maybe a t, ie Jet, or maybe a b, Jeb.
130 Could be Gertauil or Gertranii
145 to 152. surname could be Sapsberger or Sassberger.
161 First letter could be an R or a K,ie Keek or Reek.
