Transcriber's Notes:
? = Approximate number of letters that are unreadable due to fading, smears,
    torn paper etc.
* = Attention to this Transcribers List.
^ = The following letter is superscripted
Numbering was added by Transcriber for ease in finding.

The first Passenger had 'Germany' as the Country to which they belong and 'Texas'
as Country they intend on becoming inhabitants. There are no ditto marks,
zigzag lines or anything on the other passengers.

The original transcriber had a very good handwriting but was very lax in using
ditto marks in the sex column. There are numerous obvious errors noted below.

Passengers:
4 Age is listed as 3/4 which is probably 9 months

Correspondence 05/29/01 passengers #25-33 NOHL

Passengers 25-33 on the Brig Herschel Vol 3 1850 are my ancestors from
Germany. Sophie Nohl is my great-great grandmother. She is the link
with the Nohl family. Johann Nohl and Christina Nohl are my
great-great-great grandparents. Juliane Nohl is my great-great-great-great
grandmother. The family lived in Indianola, Texas and Johann (John)
was a stock keeper while Christina was a homemaker. Their children
were Maria, Catherine, Carl (Charles), Phillip (William), Sophie who
were born in Germany. Then Amelia, Dinah and Herman who were born
in Texas. Dianne Bluhm
The HERSCHEL, named after the discoverer of the planet Uranus, was a 2-masted, square-rigged brig, built by Johann Lange, of Vegesack/Grohn, for his own account, and launched on 18 November 1843.
209 tons register; 28,2 x 6,7 x 3,9 meters (length x breadth x depth of hold). The HERSCHEL was intended for the Caribbean trade, and her maiden voyage, under captain 'Johann Lamke', of Vegesack, was from Bremerhaven to Galveston. In 1847, she was sold to the Bremen firm of Lange & Grave. Lamke was followed as captain, in turn, by 'Hinrich Raschen', from Lesembrok, and 'Claus Nordenholt', from Vegesack, who was in command of the brig when she went missing in 1858.
