Transcriber's Notes:
An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder not the
transcriber or is used to call your attention to additional information in the
Transcriber's Notes.
The ? marks indicates letters or words that cannot be read due to the quality
of the original document.
No passengers on this list died on the voyage, so that column has been eliminated.
For Passengers #1 thru #8 - along the left-hand side is drawn a line which
groups these passengers & along that line is written the word Cabin.
All passengers after #5 intended to become inhabitants of the United States.
Passenger #1 and #5 intended to become inhabitants of Canada. I have eliminated the
remainder of the column after the Cabin passengers.
The writer of this manifest usually used ditto marks for repeated surnames, sex,
or occupation. Some of the passengers do not have a last name listed. Probably it
is the same as the last written surname.
The writer of this manifest wrote the country to which they severally belong & the
country in which they intend to become inhabitants at the top of each page of the
manifest. The country name changed when necessary, however there were no ditto
marks in the empty spaces.
All names with a "^" in it indicate that the final letter or letters were raised.
They are abbreviations of names for Thomas, Elizabeth, William, etc.
At the top right corner of the manifest is printed: Sold by McSpedon & Baker,
Stationers, 25 Pine Street, adjoining the Custom House, N.Y.
This printed manifest was from the 1840's. In the sworn statement it is clearly
printed "184" and a "5" is written over the "4".
* Passengers:
28 & 29 - there was no last name listed or any ditto marks. It is possible that
they are members of the Clark family even though they are from Scotland.
52 - H?lford - the ? could be an "a" or an "o". Halford or Holford.
70 - Ellen - no last name listed and no ditto mark indicating that she is a Deane.
73 - Hiller - his occupation is spelled Engeneer.
104 - Halle?? - name could be Hallem or Hallern.
105 to 115 - no last name listed and no ditto marks indicating that they are
Hallem or Hallern.
130 to 134 - no last name listed and no ditto marks indicating that they are
Williamson.
156 - Ter??? Riley - looks like "u"s & "n"s, but I believe it could be Terence.
157 - A??y Ryan - it looks most like Anty. There is a line extending from the "t"
to the "R" in Riley. However it could be Auly or Auty or Anly.
167 & 168 - no last name listed and no ditto marks indicating that they are May.
185 to 188 - no last name listed and no ditto marks indicating that they are Costello.
193 - Joha Noonan - The first name looks like it could be John, but the sex is listed
as female. May be an abbreviation for Johanna?
