Transcriber's Notes:
This list was filmed on top of a list which does not seem to have been
filmed for Wilmington. Only 1 passenger's name is legible on that page:
Margt McCormick, age 30, spinster, residence Claudy. She was possibly a
passenger on another arrival (perhaps for Wilmington) which was lost over time.
#3 note states: "wife".
#8-9 uncertain if surname begins with Mc or if M is a middle initial.
Surname could be Grilis or Gulis or McGrilis or McGulis.
Residence looks like Muft or Mufs but is possibly Muff.
#12-14 again, uncertain if surname begins with Mc or if M is a middle initial.
Surname could be Philemy or Philerny or Philenny or Mc before any one
of those. Residence Castledery or Castlederg.
#15 does not seem to be a first name, and the only name there looks like Hamill.
#16-17 note by their names: "man and wife". Residence as found, probably either
town or county of Londonderry.
#20-22 residence Leardin or Leasdin.
#26 residence looks like Clinkesey or Clinkerey.
#28 residence looks like Tulloghobegy or Tulloghobegg.
#30 residence looks like Magharman.
#31-33 residence spelled with rr for #33.
#34-35 these 2 passengers with the same surname have 2 different residences.
Possibly the original writer of the list mistakenly moved the column up
or down, throwing the residences off by one.
#40-41 residence looks like Durmave, but uncertain.
#42 surname looks like Pdealy or Idealy or Gdealy.
#43 surname looks like Barter or Baster, perhaps for Baxter. Residence looks
like Roshin but uncertain of last letters.
#45 first name spelled as found.
#47-50 residence could be Church Town or Chinch Town, perhaps, but not certain.
#51 residence looks like Lettermakeny or Lettermakerry.
#52 surname looks like Rolston or Rodston.
#54 note by her name: "wife".
#55-57 residence looks like Mobin or Molrin, but letters tightly written together.
#60 age could be 20 or 21. Residence area damaged with a hole, but could be
2 or 3 letters after r.
#62 residence looks like Ballymayertr or Ballymayerh, but uncertain.
#63-64 residence written as found, probably either town or county of Londonderry.
#65 residence looks like Ling or possibly Lirig.
#66-67 first name for #66 looks like Milty or Milly. Residence looks like
Larahhill, but perhaps spelling should be like the residence for #70; not
certain however.
#70 residence probably spelled Laragharell, or Lasaghasell, but uncertain.
#71 residence spelled Beltony or Bellony.
#72 residence probably Newtown Stewart.
#74-75 residence Fahan or Falian.
#76 surname could be spelled Croiny or Cromy or Coiny or Comy. Town could be
Tamaurin or Tarnaurin.

or Pubble or similar.
#83 residence could be spelled Ballyrehnan or Ballyrelinan perhaps.
#84 surname could be spelled Meham or Mehane.
#87 occupation possibly painter.
#90-91 residence looks like Cloghcon or Cloghcou.

or Castlenin.
#101 residence looks like Bellix.

last letters extends below line so could be y or g towards end of
residence name.
#108-110 residence could be spelled Ardstron, but not certain.
#112-113 residence could be spelled Slarnount or Slamount, but not certain.
#116 residence looks like Belix.
#118-119 a lot of damage. Residence possibly Rothmil?? but a guess. First name
of #119 possibly begins with E or C, perhaps Cath. or Eliza, but guessing.
#120 very unusual name, but have spelled what is visible, though last few letters
of surname are damaged. Age could be 24 or 34. Occupation looks like
"A Barney" but does not make sense. Residence damaged but may begin with
S or K or R. Completely uncertain if it is Strabane, but could be same
number of letters.
#121 first name as found. Residence looks like Ballymagn?ty but not certain
of the t.
Correspondence 01/31/02 passengers #98 & 99 Rutherford
James and Rebecca RUTHERFORD were from Cashleenan, Kilmacrenan, Co. Donegal,
Ireland, where the RUTHERFORD family lived for 2 generations before that.
The information was that they were married on March 26, 1840, and left
Ireland on April 26, 1840, eventually arriving in Philadelphia PA, where they
started a small dairy farm and began raising their family. There is another
entry on the passenger list of interest, #30 of James STEWART, which was
Rebecca's maiden name...he might well be a brother.
James RUTHERFORD (1817-1888) was a son of James and a grandson of Captain
RUTHERFORD, of Co. Donegal, Ireland. His mother was Hannah DILL of the DILLs
of Co. Donegal. (His first name may have been Henry, but he was known as
James.) He married Rebecca STEWART (1822-1874) in 1840, and they immigrated
to Philadelphia, PA, USA immediately afterwards. They immigrated to Ontario,
Canada in about 1847 with three young sons, and settled in Euphrasia Twp.
Grey Co. and then moved on to Albion Twp. Peel Co. about 1854.
They eventually had a total of 16 children, although 6 died in infancy. Two
daughters married the two BEATTY Brothers who in 1874 founded the famous
farm equipment firm in Fergus, Ontario. There were frequent RUTHERFORD
reunions hosted by BEATTY BROTHERS. These reunions were very large, and the
last, which was held on Sept. 7, 1949 in conjunction with the 75th
Anniversary of BEATTY BROTHERS, hosted over 150 people. There are a huge
number of RUTHERFORDs in Canada who can trace their descent directly back to
this pioneer couple, and it is my goal to trace and record all of their
descendants.
