I, C.H. Andrews, Master of the SS Erin do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board of the said SS Erin at Liverpool and Queenstown from which port said SS Erin has now arrived; and that on the said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of the said Passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who have died. two identical views of the first page.
All passengers on this page of the passenger list intended to
inhabit the United States. I have eliminated that column in order
to save space on each line.
I have eliminated the Death column even though passenger 1002 died
on the voyage as noted on page 4 of this transcription.
The following notes are listed by passenger number:
13 ?? Barrow - The name can't be read because the original page is
torn in this area.
57 Joseph Re?ley - This letter is partially covered by the lower
leg of a letter in the line above it. This letter extends below
the line and the name may be Repley.
84 Ebenezer Sutherly - I believe the name could instead be Sutherby.
The person recording the list would most often write his Y with
only one point at the top rather than two, making a difference
in how you read the name.
116 Lewis D??es - The name is either Danies, Davies, Donies, or Dovies.
130 Bridget Munth? - The name is either Muntha or Munthe.
131 Ann McG?shion - The name is either McGashion or McGushion.
153 Honora Mc?agan - The name is either McFagan or McTagan. The original
recorder wrote most of his F's with a horizontal line intersecting
the middle of the letter but sometimes he neglected to do this and
the letter would look like T.
167 Ann Ri?hell - It appears this letter could be G but the bottom part
may be covered by the lower leg of a letter in the line above it.
If this is not the case, the letter is probably C. The name could
be Righell or Richell.
174 Ann D??kan - Neither letter falls below or extends high above the
line. The letters could be E, I, N, or U, making the name Dinkan,
Duekan, Denkan.
181 Ann Mull?gan - The ink is smeared on this letter but I believe the
name could be Mullegan or Mulligan.
190 Ellen Mc?oughlin - This letter is partially covered by the lower
leg of a letter in the line above it. The part that is visible
looks like it could be L, making the name McLoughlin.
196 Jane Byr?e - The name is either Byrne or Byrme. The recorder may
have written the N to look like an M.
201 and 202 Kate and John Ferr?s - The name is either Ferres or Ferris.
208 Ellen Burk? - The name is either Burk or Burke. The recorder wrote
his K's with an added loop at the end, making the loop look like an E.
215 Bidget K?lbance - The name is either Kelbance or Kilbance.
218 Lily Foothill - The age was originally written as 29, crossed out
and another number written directly over the 2. I believe the age
is most likely 7.
221 Kate McE?tee - This letter is rather blurry but I believe it could
be N, making the name McEntee.
223 Ann Me?an - This letter is partially covered by the lower leg of a
letter in the line above it. The letter is either H or N, making
the name Mehan or Menan.
238 Bridget Mor?? - What I think might be two letters is completely
smeared, making it impossible to read. The letters don't appear
to fall below or extend high above the line.
248 Hugh McCa?agher - The name is either McCaragher or McCasagher.
256 Infant - There's no indication that this passenger is a member of
the Burns family preceeding it on the list but I would imagine
she is.
258 Richard Mc?uin - It appears the writer combined the second and
the third letters in the surname, making it impossible to decipher
accurately. The name may be McGuin.
259 James McG??ldrick - Neither letter falls below or extends high
above the line. The writing is rather blurry, but I believe the
name could be McGouldrich or McGoaldrich.
263 Thomas ?ahoney - The name is either Fahoney or Tahoney.
280 Tobias Ph?lbin - The name is either Phelbin or Philbin.
