Wall 23 Male Labourer Transcriber's notes: An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder not the transcriber or is used to call your attention to additional information in the Transcriber's Notes below. A ? mark indicates letters or words that cannot be read due to the quality of the original document. The column "Country to which they severally belonged" was left off since every passenger indicated "Ireland". The column "Country of which they intend to become inhabitants" was left off since every passenger indicated "United States". The column "Remarks relative to any who may have died or left the vessel during the voyage" was left off since there were no notations under that column. The given name "Biddy" is noted several times on this list. "Biddy" was often used as a nickname for Bridget. It was common for an original recorder of a ship's manifest to abbreviate given names by omitting middle letters and superscripting (writing above the line) the last letter of the given name. This was done on passenger numbers 4, 7, 12, 21,24, 32, 39, 46, 48, 49, 54, 55, 57, 71, 79, 91, 92, 95, 99, 102, 105, 107, 111, 114, 115, 119 and 132. #39, #40, #41 - These passengers were at the very bottom of a page with the surname spelled "Hanly". #42, #43, #44 - These passengers were written at the very top of the next page with the surname spelled "Hanley". Due to the very young ages of #42, #43 and #44 and the successive order of these 6 passengers on this list, these passengers may well have been traveling together and the original recorder may have made a spelling error/variation when he began the next page. #53 - Gender was designated with ditto marks as male but might have been an error. Given name was definitely written as "Lilly". #92 - Gender was written out as male but might have been an error. Given name was definitely written as "Margt". #103 - Gender was designated with ditto marks as male but might have been an error. Given name was definitely written as "Mary".
