DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, R Hoffman, Master of the SS Braunschweig, do solemly, sincerely, and truly
declare that the Passenger List or Manifest subscribed by me, and now delivered,
by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is
a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said vessel
at Bremen from which port the vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is
truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said
passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during
the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it
is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest
truly sets forth the Number of said passengers who
have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.

* This list was very neatly written except that it was very dark in some areas
making it impossible to distinguish what was being written. Therefore ? denotes
an area or letter of the word that was not readable on the original copy of the
manifest.
* If nothing is entered in a column then that is the way the manifest listed it.
* Number 404 to 407 lines are completely empty, not unreadable.
* There are many abbreviations on these spellings leaving it open to interpretation.

Passengers 719-725 on this list are my ancestors.
Emma Aufderheide was really Emma Dieckhaus (Dickhause) and she was born of
Louise's first marriage to Heinrich Wilhelm Dieckhaus. Emma would have been
18 in 1880 (according to Green Wood Cemetery records that say she was 85
years 1 month and 20 days old when she died on 15 April 1947).
Carl Aufderheide (the younger, age 14 on the list) is a mystery. According
to an inscription on a memorial stone in Green Wood Cemetery, Carl was
born 10 December 1872 in NYC and died 23 May 1880 on the voyage TO
Germany on the steamer Main and was buried at sea. So who is this 14 year

Oscar who is listed as 6 years old at the time, grew up to be a Congressman
for New Jersey. A brief biography of him can be accessed at Congress

Baby Heinne, age 3, female is most likely my great grandfather Henry
(nickname Henny) who was born 6 Mar 1877, making him 3 years old in 1880.
