DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, John Hedderwick, Master of the SS Anchoria do solemnly,
sincerely and truly swear, that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by
me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the City of
New York is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the
said vessel at Glasgow from which port said vessel has now arrived; and that
on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the calling of each of
said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each
during the passage, the country or citizenship of each, and also the
destination or location intended by each; and that said List or Manifest
truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage,
and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died;
also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as it
can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger
as to a protracted stay in this country. So help me God.

Transcriber's Notes:
The use of an * indicates a superscripted name or an error made by the
original transcriber.
The use of a ? indicates letters that could not be read clearly.
The Captain of this ship abbreviated names in 3 different
ways. With some given names he superscripted the final letter
(such as Patk, Wm, Chas, or Michl), with some he put a colon
after a letter (such as Hu: or Cath:) and with some he just wrote the
accepted abbreviation (such as Jas, Jno or Jos).
The word Nil (in the calling column) probably means no occupation.
1-6, could be spelled McGarvey.
57-63, the McDonalds, each had an x to the left of their name
and also a { to the left, including them as one group. There was a date
(8/24/08) written between the lines of passenger 56 (Handly) and
Jas McDonald; and a notation to the right that looked like the following:
7 names in one ind???ement(?) to cor?? of ? work(?). Transcriber could
not decipher more than this. According to an explanation of notations
found at the website of the Immigration and Naturalization Service,
this could mean that the family was detained for some reason.
